09/18/2005 | Bob | this source on the archive comes in at 800 meg 136 min, while the fob(29477) is 1.2 gig, and 126 minutes, anyone?
09/20/2005 | Charlie Miller | That's interesting. Looks like the SBD is SHN and the AUD is FLAC. Oddly, the SHN compressed better than the FLAC...cm
09/23/2005 | neo_levo | also the overall levels of the recordings might be different. recordings with low levels end up compressing to smaller size (probably cuz they are already a little compressed to begin with if they aren't using up the 16 bit dynamic range). this isn't bs - i've taken the same file, boosted the levels and then decreased the levels, and seen the effect on lossless file size.
09/26/2005 | Charles Wier | Also, in general, the background audience noise and perhaps echo are less correlated than the music, thus resulting in a lower degree of compression.
06/27/2018 | charliemiller87@earthlink.net | The reason that this source is 10 minutes longer than the audience is this is a digital recording that has no tape pauses. The audience is from a cassette and has pauses between all of the songs that don't segue. |
