March - 2023:
About 20 years ago in 2003, I worked a little bit with Harry Popick, along regularly with Betty Cantor-Jackson at Glide Memorial Church in SF. [www.glide.org]
Betty and Harry both worked for the Grateful Dead in their careers. He as their monitor engineer from 1976-1995 and Betty as recording engineer and producer since 1968. Harry was also the sound engineer for the Jerry Garcia Band circa 1976 - 1986.
With Betty’s blessings, Harry one day gave me a couple of shoeboxes of Jerry Garcia Band soundboard masters, circa 1984-1986. Per her request, I held on to these or played copies as a dj for a weekly Grateful Dead Night at a place called "Nickie's" at 460 Lower Haight St in SF. But that was about it.
Recently while dusting a shelf, I noticed an old DAT of one these Jerry Garcia Band shows and I thought it's silly they’re still not in circulation.
Attached is a picture of Betty retrieving what I had left of those tapes as to store in her care[Early 2022]. The other is Harry at work on monitor sound.
Of the tapes, the ones from this box I transferred 24 bit via Nakamichi DR1 to Sound Devices MixPre6. The ones I did 20 years ago and then gave back to Betty, are 16-bit on DAT. Betty tends NOT to give back things she takes away so that is that.
I hope you enjoy! Cheers.
