Jerry Garcia Band

Recorded by an unknown man in wheelchair with unknown mics in his hat brim who copied his original masters for me. My recollection is that we were in the back row dead center. The recording levels were set a bit high, resulting in some saturation and distortion. This is particularly evident during the ferocious encore jam. Still, to me this sounds like the best of the recordings that circulate for this date.

I met the taper and his friend in line for the early show. He was in a wheelchair which made smuggling in his gear quite easy, He had a brimmed hat with a microphone hidden on each side of the brim. After the late show we listened to his recording in his van and it sounded great. I gave him S&H money for a copy of his tapes; he refused it at first, stating that his recordings were only for himself and his close friends. I grovelled and ultimately he agreed and took my money. Several months later the tapes arrived in the mail. I was disappointed that he had gone with relatively cheap TDK tapes for the dupe but they still sound great to my ears. In 2003 I converted the tapes to CDs and these tracks are ripped from those CDs. My original tapes were loaned out and never returned so this is all I have.
My friend Ryan Krumpeck took the included awesome photo from this show.
