[ DIFFERENCE | WANT LIST (0) | COMMENTS (6) | EMAIL ]

I do very little outside one-to-one trading these days because I am very active on BitTorrent sites such as the DIME and also through organized trading groups on Yahoo. If you have something on my wanted list (below), I'm very likely up for a trade. Otherwise, you may well have something that I want that I don't have, in which case you can probably tempt me. I am, after all, absolutely shameless about collecting music. However, if I'm not interested, you can either wait and try later on (that usually works unless I've told you that you don't have anything I collect) or, better bet, ask me (via PM on the BitTorrent site) to seed the show on one of the BitTorrent sites I frequent (I'm BluesFan just about everywhere I play). I also have been known to give small "gifts" around the holidays.
My list is broken into sublists. DO NOT try to open the main list. It is too big - I can't even get it to open. Actually, if you want to try, go for it and beat your brains out, BUT no whining if your PC goes into some sort of terminal freezeup that requires a sledge hammer to remedy.
Sublists:
Americana - This is country & western, old timey, bluegrass, alt country, traditional folk and related. European folk and more contemporary folk is in NOC.
Blues - Ain't nuthin' finer than some good, gritty Chicago blues.
Clapton - Eric Clapton and related such as Cream, Blind Faith, Derek & The Dominos, Delaney & Bonnie, et cetera.
Classic Rock - the bands I grew up with, up through early to mid-1970s beginnings.
Detroit Scene - bands from or that had their origins in the incredible late 1990s Detroit music scene such as The White Stripes, Blanche, Greenhornes (yeah, I know they're from Cincinnati) and The Raconteurs (yeah, I know they're from Nashville).
Jazz - As Frank Zappa succinctly put it: "Jazz isn't dead, it just smells funny."
Miles & Bird - Bird and Miles (I am hopelessly behind on getting my Bird up here, so I probably have no interest in any more, and I've got more Miles than I'll probably ever be able to listen to).
Modern Rock - bands that started mid-1970s and later.
NOC - The elephants' burying ground. Stuff that don't fit elsewhere in my twisted scheme of things including soul, comedy, European and modern folk, reggae, world music, spoken word and...
Punk & Post-Punk - This is UK only (with the exception of the Abecedarians) and does not include new wave or pub rock bands (they're in Modern Rock along with US Punk).
WANTED LIST:
I am currently looking for:
Joy Division - anything I don't have.
Townes Van Zandt - anything I don't have.
Giants Of Jazz - anything I don't have.
Louis Armstrong - anything I don't have.
Steve Miller Band - anything I don't have from the 1960s.
Buddy Miller (w/ or w/out Julie) - anything I don't have.
Uncle Tupelo - anything I don't have.
How I operate:
I don't do B&Ps, so please don't ask.
I normally trade in FLAC or SHN files on DVDRs. When I trade in playable formats, I use quality CDRs ( Taiyo Yuden exclusively ) and work very hard at making great copies to trade. Prior to ripping or burning I demagnetize both the discs I'm copying and the discs I'm burning using a Furutech RD-2 Disc Demagnetizer. I rip using EAC and then use Nero 10 and burn at the slowest possible speed. For DVDs, I use Taiyo Yuden DVDRs and Nero 10 the same way as I do CDRs. I expect the same effort and quality in return. I communicate frequently during a trade and appreciate the same in return. Thank you.
Shows that show a media type of FLAC and a media count of 0, and have no  show/sound quality rating, are shows that I have downloaded from BitTorrent sites or acquired in trades, have not converted to WAV and have not listened to yet.
PLEASE READ THIS: I use an A to C quality rating scale, with C being pretty bad and for completists only, B being listenable with obvious flaws, and A being pretty good. I think I'm a conservative grader but... it ends up being very subjective. If you have any questions, please ask and I'll put it on for a spin and tell you exactly what I hear.
Please note that I take into consideration age in assigning a quality rating (the older the tape, the more generous I tend to be with the rating). What might be a very good audience tape from the 1960s or a soundboard tape from the 1930s would not be so highly rated today. I also differentiate between audience and soundboard sources; thus, an AUD A- would not sound as good as a SBD A-.
Also... I take into consideration the source. A DVD ripped from a webcast and rated A- will not be as good as a TV sourced A-.
For a long time, I haven't paid as much attention to source as most people, so a lot of radio broadcasts have been lumped into SBD. I'm cleaning it up but...
I believe that trading should be fun and that the people I trade with are my friends, kindred spirits drawn together by a love for music. If you share these values, we should be great trading partners. If you don't, perhaps you should find someone else to trade with.
"After silence, that which comes nearest
to expressing the inexpressible is music.
Music is what feelings sound like."
~ Aldous Huxley ~
