Dave Matthews (solo)
Approximate hours: 2.5

Date  Venue Media Show Quality Sound Quality Source Notes

09/11/92

Delta Kappa Epsilon House, U. of Virginia
Charlottesville, VA
2 WAV A- B+ SBD > Cass(0) > DAT > CD-R Dave played a solo show at the DKE house in C'ville. Throughout the set, he kept mentioning how a girl had a penis drawn on her hand (that's how the frat boys marked entry into the house). Dave turned it into a joke about his crewman Fenton (of "do it for Fenton" fame), claiming it was modeled after his penis. He then proceeded to go into this joke blues improv jam (historically labeled "The Penis Song") about the girl with the penis on her hand. This show became one of the more predominant early Dave solo shows. It's a nice long set containing all of the favorites of the early days, including a Dave solo Spotlight, a Dave solo Blue Water with an extra chorus, and an extreme rarity "Once on a Wild Afternoon," which was also known as "Destiny" or "The Mystery Song."

3 WAV A B- SBD > Cass(0) > DAT > CD-R All setlist archives list Watchtower as the final song, but CDs of this show always end with an instrumental jam which is cut off near the end. My guess is that this jam led into Watchtower, but this final song was left off all circulated copies of this show.

2 WAV A- B- DAT > CD The show is most likely a DMIX of SBD and mics, because the audience is more vocal and more easily heard than a typical SBD show. I am assuming that the show is a DMIX.

3 WAV A B- SBD > Cassette (unknown generation) > CD In DMB lore there is a tease played before So Much To Say that is said to be the precursor to Grace Is Gone.
