10/10/69 PNE Agrodome 24/96khz FLAC 1 John also taped Jefferson Airplane and his recording is the only one to surface for this show. It forms Volume 4 of Ahuka's Choice. - John was not planning to record the Ace of Cups, but was enjoying their set and turned on the recorder mid-set, hence the microphone noises on the beginning of Thelina.

12/31/67 Winterland FLAC 16/44.1khz 1 From grner1: This set seems to be a rarity - much less circulated than the Airplane, Big Brother or QMS sets from this show. It's a decent sounding audience recording from my 2nd gen. reel. I think that this is the best copy that you will find of this, though I would love to be proven wrong. I got this recording from David Cooks (early tape archivist for John Cipollina), who attended the show and noted the following details during the performance. It's easy to hear the guitars and lead vocalists as listed, but the background vocals are not as easy to differentiate. So don't expect Janis or Grace to be very obvious in the mix. The jams are fairly tight despite being rather extended.

06/08/75 Massey Hall FLAC 16/44.1khz 1 This is a composite of the [almost] complete show using 3 different versions of the circulating audience source [2 of them being retransfers] and a small patch of audio from the CBC-sourced I Shot the Sheriff footage to patch a tape flip. According to a now deleted YouTube comment by user erikt454, the audience source was recorded on a Uher Reel to Reel recorder on 7" reels.

05/05/76 Convocation Hall [Late Show] 24/96khz 1 B+
05/13/76 Orchestra Hall FLAC 16/44.1khz 1 A few seconds of Trenchtown Rock and almost 2 minutes of Roots Rock Reggae that are missing on the circulating soundboard are intact here. The only thing is missing is the beginning to Lively Up Yourself and one tape cut near the ending of closing medley.
06/08/78 Music Hall FLAC 24/96khz 1 Includes Concrete Jungle, No Woman No Cry, Jamming, & War > No More Trouble > Get Up Stand Up > Exodus from the late show. Usually circulates as a mislabeled 6/22/1978.
06/08/78 Music Hall FLAC 16/44.1khz 1 glasnostrd19: Marley's popularity was at or near its peak with the release of his album "Exodus", and the Wailers deliver that kind of energy in this show. The beginning seems almost mellow in mood (for a Bob Marley concert) but that doesn't last very long. All in all for both the music and sound, this is one of my 2 favorite BMW recordings. Many I've heard sound either really bassy (almost all do), really generated/saturated or distorted. The King Biscuit Flower Hour radio series also recorded from one or both these shows and broadcasted about 30 minutes. This is not the same source recording made by/for that broadcast, although I bet the KBFH people would not have been too upset if they had to defer to this one instead of theirs, because the tale of the tape on this is it was recorded using 2 mikes (unknown make/model, but good ones), one on either side of the balcony hung on or over the railing. Even though it has the classic bass heavy BMW mix all their live recordings seem to have, on this one, you get the rest of it too, you can hear the percussion and the guitar and keyboards clearly, the bass is heavy, but doesn't drown out everything else. The energy of the last half (or so) of the show is very high, with the Jammin' and a nice encore medley. It is an audience tape, but the quality almost defies that distinction. Whoever did this thing must really like Bob Marley, and took great care to make this wonderful document of a classic concert performance.
06/14/78 Pinecrest Country Club FLAC 16/44.1khz A+ grner1: Some microphone handling noises, level changes and minor dropouts were eliminated or minimized seamlessly and this now sounds way better than previous versions of this show. I consider this to be possibly the best sounding audience Bob Marley recording that I have heard. Check the samples to judge the sound for yourself. Thanks to Dime users chkorch, wailertape and scottsays (by way of pantagruel) for supplying the various sources that make up this remaster.

06/17/78 Madison Square Garden FLAC 1 B+ Louis Falanga's 1st gen cassette copy
07/18/78 Civic Center FLAC 16/44.1khz 1 Notes [grner1 - 2021-01-31]: The Sound quality is fairly decent, though there are some rough spots in the first couple of songs. Part of track 2 had a bad channel so the good channel was pasted into the other with the differences made less noticeable by panning gradually from stereo to mono and back. There is also someone playing some stupid whistle in the audience that gets picked up for some of the first two songs until I could move away from that idiot. While moving the stereo image remained OK by keeping the mics pointed correctly, but by the time I stopped moving forward the bass and midrange sound pressure levels were a bit overloaded, so the rest of the show sounds good but not great. Audience noise was no longer a problem with the music so loud and there are no cut songs so overall this probably rates as better than average for Bob Marley audience recordings. Please check the samples to judge the sound quality for yourself. By the way, the Nakamichi 350 was a rather large deck to sneak into a show and I was caught trying to enter the early show with it. Luckily a friendly female friend helped to successfully get it into the late show! A soundboard recording of the early show was subsequently shared here. Now that I have gotten a chance to remaster the late show, I will post it separately.
07/21/78 The Greek Theater FLAC 16/44.1khz 1 B+ Approximately 10 seconds from the end of track 11 applause into the first few drum beats of track 12 was cut on this master and was spliced in from a different version.

06/06/73 Capitol Theater 24/96khz FLAC 1 A+ Lineage notes from Pat Lee: "The MR was recorded half track at 7.5 IPS which I believe is the format used for Nagra decks. The playback deck we used was a Sony TC-388 reel which in 4 track mode plays back both tracks even though it uses a 1/4 track methodology. The 1/4 track head does not fully capture the width of a 1/2 track recording thus not maximizing the transfer possibilities. We should have used a half-track machine even though we did not have access to one and were also dealing with some time pressure."

12/06/69 Altamont Speedway 16/44.1khz FLAC 1 Notes: JEMS is proud to be able to partner with and present some of the choice recordings in the D & D archives. Some of these recordings have been around for years, but none of the master tapes or safety copies in some cases have ever been digitized until now. Dave and Donn taped many shows in and around the Seattle area in the 70's and also were contemporaries of some of the JEMS members. This recording of the infamous Altamont concert predates most D&D masters, so while they may have recorded it, we can’t say so definitively. It does seem to be an alternate source to the commonly circulated audience recordings of the show and offers a different perspective on the event, including some uncomfortable moments of audience interaction as the trouble ensues in front of the stage. Despite a lot of audience chatter and microphone movement, this is a surprisingly clear capture of the performance, enhanced through the efforts the Captain. If nothing else, it should offer a fresh angle on a familiar and tragic show.
