Jennifer Ever East Nothing and Everything Sun (remix) She (live) Spiteface
Self-released tape sold at early shows. Artwork by Billy Corgan. Info from inside the sleeve: "produced by quentin sanbria and billy corgan. engineered by paul chabala. recorded at schwa productions. (c) copyright 1989 the smashing pumpkins" There are conflicting stories as to whether the artwork was done by Billy Corgan or James Iha. I tend to believe it was Iha, as he was a graphic design student before joining the band. The tape was produced with different color j-cards. Green, red and pink j-cards have been verified. There are different "versions" of the handwritten labels. Some were done by Billy himself, while others were done by unknown parties. At least one version has been documented where both sides of the label were written by different people.

(disc 1) * Directly from the OffTopicMan tree. This quote was taken from the tree web page, "Taken from a 12 year old DAT. There's a blip of diginoise in "East (alt.)" and the Organ solo in "Rhinoceros" seems to have a loop where the same 8 seconds repeat themselves." * The sessions were obtained by OffTopicMan and two other individuals in CDR format from Mike Potential (confirmed by Dave Asselin) for 0, these individuals then decided to create the tree in order to end Mike Potentials profiteering. This was deduced from the fact that Billy has the master tape, Potential has DDC-1, and DA has a DDC-2; and seeing as BC and DA know they didn't give it out it must have been Potential. Furthermore, OffTopicMan listed the source info as DDC-1. * These sessions spawned both the second demo tape Moon, and what is known as the Gish Basement Tape, a promotional cassette used for bookings and label solicitation in 1989 and 1990. A few others were officially released elsewhere: I Am One and Not Worth Asking appeared on the Limited Potential 7"; Bye June was officially released on the Lull EP and was also included on Moon; Daughter was released on the Reflex Magazine flexi-disc and also included on Moon. Two versions of Honeyspider were recorded: a distorted, rocking version was released on the Tristessa 12" and a quieter, clean-toned version was put on Moon, and later on the Pisces Iscariot bonus 7". Just as well, two unreleased versions of Rhinoceros were recorded: an odd version with an organ solo played by Mark Ignoffo was put on Moon, and a version closer to the Gish album version was put on the Gish Basement Tape. (disc 2) * The sessions were obtained by OffTopicMan and two other individuals in CDR format from Mike Potential (confirmed by Dave Asselin) for 0, these individuals then decided to create the tree in order to end Mike Potentials profiteering. This was deduced from the fact that Billy has the master tape, Potential has DDC-1, and DA has a DDC-2; and seeing as BC and DA know they didn't give it out it must have been Potential. Furthermore OffTopicMan listed the source info as STU>DDC-1>CDR. * This session was booked to record live-only favorites such as Razor and I Am My End. Unfortunately Jimmy didn't show up and, since the studio time was prepaid, it morphed into an acoustic session. This was noted as a sloppy session with many false starts. D'Arcy was present but did not perform. * The three extra tracks are from a compilation tape made in late 1989, there is a debate as to what the tape is actually called, it is reffered to as the Ignoffo Tape or Gish/881005 or any number of things, a description of the tape states that one side is labeled "Gish" and the other "10/5/88 Metro." The tape has 22 songs on it, mainly featuring recordings from the Summer '89 RTS and 10/05/88 and five songs from the Gish Basement Tapes. "Nothing and Everything's" date is unknown, for the time being.
