Hilmar Jensson g Chris Speed ts,cl Jim Black d "While Jim Black's AlasNoAxis was still in an embryonic state, I happened to catch this set by what would end up to be three-quarters of that monster band. Although the set was almost entirely composed by Hilmar, they still managed to include a piece by the remaining quarter, Skuli, as well as the final piece by Chris. For anyone who never saw a show at the original AlterKnit room of the second incarnation of the Knitting Factory, it was a small, almost living room-like space downstairs from street level, and it shared a wall with an adjacent performance room. You can occasionally hear the other show going on, as noted by Jim Black between songs. The extremely informal atmosphere (there were literally a handful of viewers sitting on a couch and chairs around the trio) made for a very intimate and intense set. Having only heard a small amount of Jensson's music at that time, I was totally blown away."
