* This is Warehouse, but before it had a name, the nomenclature for the band was ?The Bourbon Song?, whereas the joking (and copyrighted) name is Anytime We Can Stop. This is most likely the earliest known Warehouse recorded.

Stefan has confirmed on his Twitter account that this was actually the band's first show. The date and venue were posted on October 9, 2010 when he found his recording of the show. Later, on October 10th, he posted the setlist.
The band's lineup at the time (and until August 1991) consisted of Dave, Carter, Stefan, and LeRoi. Boyd did not guest at this show.

Also, Earthday was really the next day.. I spent hours confirming this. Just trust me..

Set list for this date is unknown.
Stefan played upright bass for the opening band, Thin Men.
This was the band's first paid performance and occurred on the roof of the South Street Warehouse. They collected money from a hat passed around during the show.
Apparently, a circulating copy of 9.1.91 is mislabeled as this show. However, it is impossible for that copy to be this show since Peter Greisar (who is prominent on the keys) did not join the band until August 1991.

I?ll Back You Up
Redemption Song
These songs appear on the Granny?s Demo/4.3.91/91 demos cd. Additionally, they were ripped from that cd and traded on their own as 12.90 Miller?s. That is without a doubt incorrect. The only thing we can say with certainty is that they are from some time in 1991.

NOTES:
The 05/11/91 Pink Warehouse show out there is really from 09/91 This show takes place before the 10/22/91 show, due to the Warehouse lyrics, but it is not the Pink Warehouse show. We know this because all tracks feature Peter on keys, and he did not join the band until 8/91. Again, a limited number of songs potentially could have been played, but for now, only speculation could narrow that list down. This performance was also the band?s first paid performance. They collected About $70 from a hat passed around during their gig.

This show is really from early 1993. We know this by the songs played during this performance. The official website has this wrong, even though half the songs did not debut until 1993, and Boyd makes reference to the band being off for a while. The best guess estimate for the date is 1.23.93, Trax. That is the only known missing performance from Jan, 93, where it would fit.
Please check the
1/23/93 show and do not add this one to your list.

This setlist comes from several performances, but some of them could be from 10.21.91. This is probably a late 1991 show, though, as both Jimi Thing and Warehouse have lyrics very unlike their final versions (the Warehouse lyrics changed to their present form in early 1992).
* At the beginning of the song, Dave lets out a primal scream, thus making this version the true Screaming from the Minarets.

Many of the tracks on this demo seem to be the same versions as on the "Rutabaga" demo, which in turn match up with the three demo tacks on the '94 radio sampler entitled "Dave Matthews Band." On the sampler, the band lists the tracks as being from a '91 Quad Studios demo. This leads me to believe that much of the "Rutabaga" demo is actually from these Quad sessions. The last several tracks on this disc seem to be filler from other studio sessions.
The recording level from the tape was a bit high, causing some mild distortion at the loudest points of the music. If anyone has a cleaner copy for conversion, please let me know.

Note: Exact date is not know (12.??.91)
Recorded and mixed by Bruce Miller, this is most likely Dave's original demo tape, although no proof of that is given. Well known as "Rutebega Studios" and even assigned a date, the only thing known about this tape is that it was most likely recorded over a period of weeks in 1991. The myth of "Rutebega Studios" has been proven wrong by nancies.org's famed "Waldo" and the early Dave Matthews Band Promo (given out to radio stations and fans).

This is a compilation of several basement and studio demos from 1991, as well as two early live tracks. Thanks to Jake Vigliotti for added insight into these dates.
* This is a Dave solo basement recording from around 1-2/91. This is the only known recording of this song.
** This is a full band demo recorded in a basement around 2-3/91, before Boyd & Peter joined the band. This is the only known recording of I'll Back You Up with the entire band playing. The last few seconds of The Song That Jane Likes are cut off.
# Boyd was asked to sit in with the band's rehearsals in order to record a demo of Tripping Billies around 3-4/91. This is that demo. Boyd joined the band permanently about a year later.
$ The first three tracks of this demo are Dave solo, and the second two are with the full band (including Peter). This demo is probably from a studio around 12/91 or early '92. The end of Two Step seems to be cut off on this recording.
@ These are two Dave solo live tracks from late '90 or early '91, probably from Miller's. He mentions that he is playing alone, alluding to the possibility that a band will join him shortly. This was most likely recorded prior to a TR3 show for which Dave sat in.

You Won't See Me
Andy Svenson discovered this track as filler on a tape he had and quickly realized it is a different recording of the other known You Won't See Me. This is also the only known recording of a song performed by the 4-man DMB band, pre-Peter and pre-Boyd.
The date is an estimate, but we know it is before August, 1991 (when Peter joined full time). Other recordings we have from this time all have Boyd or eventually have Boyd joining the show. Since this song clearly ends the show, we can presume he was not there.
This recording ends the regular show. In the outro, Dave introduces the band. This is also the only known recording of a song performed by the 4-man DMB band, pre-Peter and pre-Boyd.
