Taper notes:
Another great set from the legendary Levon Helm! Yes it was still really hot out by the time Levon came up to play....but play he (and the band) did....really well. OK, this set was not very different from that last 2 times I saw them (at the Ramble where moe. opened up early this year, and the Gathering Of The Vibes in 2009), but it's always a pleasure to see and hear Levon perform. His voice was in bad shape, as can quickly be heard as he starts to sing Ophelia, so the rest of the band (including his very pregnant daughter, Amy Helm) handle the vocal duities ably until Deep Elem Blues and The Weight when Levon sang a bit. A few special guests drop in -- Bob Weir, Joe Russo (who was the busiest guy at the festival playing with God Street Wine, Levon, and Furthur!), and Cindy Cashdollar. Great stuff!!! Amazingly, even with Bob Weir onstage they did not perform Tennessee Jed which is a regular song in Levon's repetoire these days.
