As many of you blues fans know, today is our blues legends 90th birthday. Sadly, BB didn't quite make it to this day. I had hoped to see him reach this age. On this celebration day I have to post something special.

This particular recording is an important 'find' for me. Finally finding this tape and getting it into my hands has taken me 12 long years of waiting. I knew that both the early and late shows were recorded by 2 different tapers. I discovered the Early show back in 2003 from a collector who had a handful of BB tapes. This collector never responded to my numerous requests, even though I was very persistent over the past decade. Then in 2015, just by shear luck I'm looking over BR's massive tape collection and find out that he has a variety of the same tapes that I was seeking from the other collector. It was a surreal moment realizing I now had access to some of the tapes I'd been trying to get my hands on for all those previous years. I now have some of them and today I'm going to share and release a new BB recording. Mr King was 70 years old during this concert and still standing on his feet. These were still the good years of his career, giving great shows. The extra cool thing about this time period is that BB has 2 drummers on stage.

Guitar & Vocals: B.B. King, Lucille
Guitar: Leon Warren
Bass: Michael Doster
Drums: Calep Emphrey Jr.
Percussion: Tony Coleman
Keyboards: James Toney
Sax & Conductor: Walter King
Sax: Melvin Jackson
Trumpet: James Bolden

Recording notes:

This comes from a cassette sourced master, not from a DAT.

This copy is missing approx. the first 10 minutes of the show. Missing BB's orchestra opening instrumentals. Those 2 songs were not coped onto this tape. I guarantee that the taper got it, but sadly preferred to omit this part so as to fit the rest of the show onto a 90 min tape. It happens sometimes, this is one of those times.

After the tape flip, the first 30 seconds of track 9 are muffled. Then you can hear it clear up. Also, the beginning of 'Ain't Nobody's Business' is missing. I guess the taper didn't get the taped flipped quick enough.

Other than those 2 issues, this is a really nice sounding recording.

A big thanks to BR for the tapes. So much more to come.

Now on with the show.
