08/02/2000 | Chris | I have only listened to disc 1 so far, but the sound is messed up! It kind of has that warped tape sound where the music goes in and out. Anyone else hearing this or did I spend too much time on # 5?

hey there, stick with it - this is truly a great show. I've heard that warble dozens of times, and the sound eventually gets stable. enjoy! |

Yes, there definitely are sound problems on disc 1- especially in the Liz Reed. LEft channel pops in and out - umm, if anyone has another d1 of this (I just love the Liz reed and would love to hear it w/o problems) please let me know! |

08/31/2000 | Karin | Reel flip? at 12:35 of disc 2, track 8.

There is one source allegedly leaked by an ABB vault worker working on the Dreams boxed set. I made my own CDR copy from a gen3 Nak cassette; it sounds wonderful for the first and second discs. Rock solid, i.e. better than some released ABB live stuff, especially Chuck's piano. On my copy the sound degrades suddenly on about the third disc to a rather muddy level. My copy has a characteristic cut into the Statesboro after New Year's, with an AUD splice first, then the clean source beginning at around 1:30 into the song. I am also aware of an FM->REEL copy that was made a CDR tree recently on dead.net. Maybe the source listed here is not correct; the first discs sound like a multitracked, official release from my gen3 cassette copy! |

It sounds like the original tape got crinkled, or maybe the tape head was bad. What a shame! This show is incredible. I love Jerry, but he really didn't play very well at all. |

03/31/2003 | gfeck | I was at this show. I was 15 and it was my first new years show. I had too much acid but I loved the show. It was broadcasted live on KSAN FM San Francisco, That might be a better source for copies. I'm just happy I can revisit the show at all.
07/24/2003 | Argon | This was also my first Concert and I was also 15 but I was just Stoned and remember it well. Charlie Daniels Opened ( I had never heard of him at that time. Marshal Tucker followed and by the time i got to the car the Sun was coming up. It seemed to me that they played Whipping post alot longer tham 11 min. I thought they jammed on it for a very long time. maybe the Boz Scags stuff ran together and I didn't notice. I remembers others sitting in besides Boz and Jerry but i don't remember who.
11/18/2003 | Mergz | My copy has that tape-breathing sound as well but it's not the typical style of tape-breathing. It sounds more like EQ changes but it's still tape issues. It might be from the master. Anyone know?
04/28/2005 | Flanders | The "reel flip" that Karin mentioned above, at about 12:35 d2t8, is actually a discontinuity that skips back to the earlier part of the jam (11:09 or thereabouts). Might be an easy edit for someone saavy in these matters, but that ain't me 8^) Great show nonetheless.
07/17/2005 | pop_fly | man, i was there that night... the whole show was a blast! marshall tucker opened. got to get my hands on a copy of the show! |
