* Bob: "This one's dedicated to the girl with lobotomy eyes"
Recording Notes:
Occasional drop outs throughout; probably a transfer/age issue.
There are occasional low frequency "blurts" or Phil pharts as we called them due to what was later diagnosed to be contact issues with his pickups in the new on this tour Modulus 6 string bass.
/ tape paused
// tape flip
+ slight tape drag at start (accidental pause button hit?)
& slight tape drag near end

============================================================================
The drive to Morgantown was loooong! Much longer than we had figured. It was like the entire drive was uphill, up some mountains then uphill some more! I think alot of tour heads avoided this show for travel or schedule reasons. The venue was a very small arena for the Dead at this time, maybe held 6,000 and I think is where the UWV basketball team played. We arrived too late to be able to have the Beyers with us but did get in the headphone mics. We wound up near the front corner of the soundboard and on the tape you can hear lots of audience chatter, I suspect due to being on the corner and occasional foot traffic.
Classic Sunday Sampson opener and the first set was off to a relatively country and classics evening. Well played if a bit lethargic compared to last night first set. The band and the crew had to drive the same distance we did! The second set was the stuff that becomes the reason why people got hooked on the Dead's music. The Uncle JOhn's Band > Playin > drumspace > Wheel > Playin > China Doll sequence was sublime Dead, hailing back to their 1974-77 era. You can almost hear the small size of the venue on the tape.
We had to hook it on out of town and back home to Syracuse so all I recall of Morgantown is it is up high in the mountains because our drive was mainly downhill for the first 90 minutes.
