I arrived early at the Fillmore expecting a crowd. I waited to buy a ticket
at the door to avoid the Ticketbastard fee and it felt good saving $15 out of
principal. Late arriving crowd so quick line at doors and no one on floor until
lights went down. Before the band started I got a text from a friend from NY who
was in New Orleans and at the Allman Betts band. Pretty ironic that last show I
saw at Fillmore was Allmans Family Revival and I was at Fillmore about to see some
New Orleans funk. Band came out an a guy came passed me and stopped close to me.
I noticed what I thought was a cable so was pretty sure he was also taping. The
Dumpstafunk set started hot really good and it sounded really nice too. I was
enjoying the set and then they brought out a special guest, Carlos Santana. I
have seen Carlos many times, but never at the Fillmore. Wow, it was epic. After
Carlos they brought out a guest drummer who I thought they said was from Sly and
The Family Stone. I wasn't sure so will leave it to others to confirm. After
the set ended I asked the guy next to me what he was running. He looked at me and
I pointed to the cable. He said he was running Church Audios. I said I was
running Schoeps. He then asked if I was Daspy. Yep. Turns out he was a taper I
had met years ago and knew online. Small world.

Lights went down and Karl Denson's band came out followed by Karl Denson. The set
started out on fire. These guys could play. I had seen Karl Denson with the Stones
but never on his own. Very impressive band. Ivan Neville from Dumpsafunk came out
for a song. Then Karl brought out a DJ named Z-Trip for a few songs. This part of
the set lost me a bit. Really not a fan of the DJ stuff making weird sounds sampling
records. By now the crowd was thinning out since it was getting late and the talkers
got closer to me so some moving forward and back to avoid them. After the DJ left
the set got better (in my opinion). By the time the show ended it was about 1AM and
the Fillmore was empied out. Fun show but a later night than I expected. One more
show left for 2018.
