12/26/2003 | ljr | Is space edited from this show? According to deadbase and dhtc there was a space. Sounds like it's been edited to my ear.
12/26/2003 | jb | The 17th is from the same source and it has a large audience patch for most of drums and space. The SBD tape seems to run out at the exact point where side A of a 100 min tape would run out and doesn't start again until right before the end of space. Maybe whoever was running the deck at the board was trying to make sure they got all of the actual songs by stopping the deck for parts of drums and space. Since the pre-drums music on the 16th was shorter than the 17th, the "50 min flip" would have occurred well into drums. Just a theory anyway.

Just to clarify, there is definitely a tape flip in the "Drums" track. It occurs just after drums turns to space and doesn't cut back in until the last 30 secs or so of space before Black Queen. In the first set, there is a tape flip @5:43 of Brother Esau. The rest of the song is missing except for a little bit of hi-hat as the song is ending. Finally, the first set has considerably more tape hiss than the second set. The show itself is excellent. Stills is a great guest and Black Queen is superb. Even the first set songs like Minglewood and West LA are played with extra fire. China Rider is played at breakneck speed. |

Mystery Solved? In the Deadheads Taping Compendium says there was NO 'Space'. Quoted from the reviewer in the Compendium: "There was no 'Space' - Stills came out with the band at the end of 'Drums', and they went right into 'Black Queen'" |

03/08/2004 | C Miller | Set 1 is almost certainly from a different source, with more analog generations in all likelihood. Set 2 has less hiss (sounds like it has had NR applied), and may have fewer analog generations. NR aside, it is still cleaner sounding.
02/22/2005 | Charlie Miller | I was at this show and taped it. There was no space. The 1st set is from a 1st gen cassette sbd. I have a PCM SBD of set 2 that I will circulate today, and it will show that there is no space, as does my cassette master fob aud...cm |
