JGMF:

! Recording: symbols: % = recording discontinuity; / = clipped song; // = cut song; ... = fade in/out; # = truncated timing; [ ] = recorded event time. The recorded event time immediately after the song or item name is an attempt at getting the "real" time of the event. So, a timing of [x:xx] right after a song title is an attempt to say how long the song really was, as represented on this recording.

! R: sbd >> cassette >> ??, via Alligator. I can't vouch for any of this. It is what it is, here on the 25th anniversary of Garcia's passing.

! comment: Unlabeled sbd tape of the Godchaux-era JGB with a second guitarist. The likeliest time frame is late 1976 through spring 1977, because the band seemed to be experimenting with second guitarists around this time. If people want to try to sleuth out likely dates, I would encourage them to 1) compare this guitarist with the person playing on 11/20/76, who may or may not be the guy playing January-April 1977; 2) verify Tutt drumming? That would rule out 1978, though that's already unlikely since Maria is not present. 3) Check out John's bass feature in Russian Lullaby. Compare to its development over these years. 4) Other ideas?

! R: t01 ITAM crazy mix problems until 3:04. What's neat about them is they sometimes isolate the rhythm guitarist. Most of the band comes in 3:04, but there are still serious issues, not least the lead guitar and bass being nearly inaudible. Vocals come in around 7:05.

! R: t02 TUOY tick @ 3:18

! P: t03 RL Kahn has a bass feature late 8 until late 10. This might help dating the material, to see when the feature started happening, but I am not sure how helpful it will be.

! R: t03 tape discontinuity @ 16:28-16:30, during tuning, may just be real-time.

! R: t04 MT tape flip @ 4:43

! t04 (1) JG: "We're gonna take a break. We'll be back a little bit later on."
