JOE'S MEMORIES:
This was the show where I realized that I was a Grateful Dead "fan" and not a true "Deadhead".
I had seen the Dead in Bangor, Maine in April 1971 and it was a great show and a nice experience.
The people who were at that show were there to see the band and listen to the music,
After the release of the "Europe '72" album and reading about the "Wall Of Sound" stage,
I was looking forward to a great show. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a whole different experience.
As we entered the Music Hall, we were amazed by the size of the "Wall Of Sound" and  we were looking forward
to a unique and exciting show. The two sets featured a great selection of songs,
but the audience proved to be a challenge for those of us who were there to sit in our seats to listen and
enjoy the music. As soon as the band took the stage, people stood up, left their seats and flooded the aisles
to get closer to the stage. From that moment, it became a continuous battle between the ushers, who tried to keep
the aisles clear and get people back to their seats, and the ones who kept going back into the aisles to block
the view of those in the closer seats. Besides the people clogging the aisles and blocking everyone's vision,
there were the ones who were under the influences of various "substances",shouting and making a general nuisance of themselves.
I had looked forward to this show for quite a while and it was very frustrating to not be able to be comfortable and enjoy it.
The audiences for certain British and Southern Rock bands were always a little more "boisterous" in Boston,
but they usually listened to the music. Unfortunately, this was a whole different scene.
Although the band was sounding as good as ever and we got to see Jerry without his beard for the first time in a long while,
it just wasn't a good atmosphere to be in. They didn't even have any bright lights to highlight the members of the band as they performed,
so I couldn't even get any good photos of them. Needless to say, this was my last live Dead show.
I still remain a fan, after all these years, but I had to leave the live show experience for the others, who chose to walk, "twirl" and yell.
Eventually, the "tapers" ended up getting the best deal, when special seating areas were set up just for them and they were able to stay apart
from the noise and confusion.

Many Many Thanks To Joe
