Dr. Didg
The Lion?s Den, New York City, NY
1/1/03 (starting 2:00 AM on New Years Eve)
Source: SBD (Graham?s In-Ear Monitor mix*)
*If you have seen a Dr. Didg concert you probably noticed that Graham (aka Dr. Didg) is wearing earphones, and has a small mixer on the top of the rack next to him. With this mixer he controls his own signals and loops on 4 channels, and also brings in an additional 6 channels of sound from the other bandmembers to provide a monitor mix. He records almost every gig from the stereo outs on that mixer direct into DAT or Minidisc (DAT in the case of this concert). He then masters the recordings at home, adjusting the EQ, adding a small amount of reverb and sometimes applying gentle compression.

Notes:
There was at least one more song played (definitely Street Music), but I don?t believe it got recorded.
Overall I feel this is a good sounding recording. The only problems I have with it are that the guitar is a bit quiet, and some of the keyboards are a bit loud.
Disc 1, Track 8 There was a nasty glitch about 3.6 seconds in, caused by switching cables on the monitor board. I patched in about 0.2 seconds of sound from 8 beats earlier, and I don?t think anyone will be able to spot the repair.
The track titles and edit points in the improv stuff are somewhat arbitrary, but for me they represent major sections with a particular theme, and hopefully provide easy access to ?good bits? that you want to find again. I have also placed edit points after the initial ?shaka-shaka? didg loop on some tunes. For me the ?shaka-shaka? is a framework to build the loop, and when I am listening I often want to skip to where the first full riff comes in.
