08/05/2003 | Mr. Marmar | This is a great mix except for one HUGE thing.......Where is the BASS? The mix is right, it just needs to be eq'd or have a pass through a BBE unit....I am willing to guess that the sources have the proper bass response and that it's ducked out by the phase cancellation caused from mixing the 2 sources.....Still a very enjoyable listen.
08/25/2003 | Lenn Stubbe | Maybe we're not listening to the same mix but my source (same as listed here) has a fantastic bass presence. This is a great sounding Matrix.
09/18/2003 | wigglysway | I can explain the "lack of bass", the original FM-ALD was in mono, so I took the stereo tracks and converted them to mono and used a stereo expander when creating this mix. The stereo expander works by manipulating the phase to create a wider stereo image, that's why there's a nice L to R feel on the hybrid. The bass from the B&K was pretty muddy so it got rolled off for clarity's sake. Mike Gordon's bass is really tight, punchy and present in this recording, but there isn't much action in the 20 - 80Hz range. Bump the bass knob on your amp if you think it's lacking... |
