What happens when groove-laden reggae and frenetic rock meet a violin sonata? The answer is ZOX, a foursome from Providence, RI whose unique blend of rock, reggae, punk, and classical has begun to shake up clubs and colleges all across the United States. ZOX combines the talents of San Francisco-bred singer/songwriter/guitarist Eli Miller, conservatory-trained violinist Spencer Swain, drummer (and band namesake) John Zox and virtuoso bassist Dan Edinberg to create a sound that is energetic, sophisticated, fun, and far from conventional.
Touted as \"a band on the verge\" in the nationally distributed Relix magazine, ZOX was further described as \"a sophisticated quartet that delivers a vibrant, thinking man\'s brand of hook-laden and funky pop-rock. The simplicity that runs through the band\'s upbeat, rhythmic songs is offset by sterling violin work, which often takes the lead role, and the occasional jazz or classical nuance.
