I am disappointed that this was given a SHNID. It seems clearly inferior to existing sources, both in terms of sound and in terms of inaccuracies in lineage. |
|
09/30/2007 | jjoops | shnids are for sources in circulation, not for good (or better) sources in circulation -- all of them.
09/30/2007 | Wharfrat73 | Thank you jjoops.

George Shannon has said he made this version: "Just for the record, the first few seconds of Minglewood are from 5-7-77 and the beginning of Lazy Lightning is from 5-25-77. Also for the record I still believe this sounds better than the audience patched version albeit not as historically accurate for obvious reasons. I purposefully left the splices barely audible so one could tell they were there but without jumping out and grabbing one's attention like the audience patched versions do." I guess, to me, there is a chicken and an egg issue here. If this didn't have a SHNID, it wouldn't have gone into circulation. But you guys know FAR better than I.... |

09/30/2007 | jjoops | It was given a shnid after it entered into circulation, I believe. But I am not a GD admin, so I am not sure.

George Shannon sent it to some friends as an audio CD five years ago. It was only torrented for the first time (at eTree and elsewhere) after it got a SHNID. It seems like a person could make A LOT of new sources like this, which is where I was coming from. But now I'm mostly just curious to try to understand the thinking. |

10/01/2007 | Grateful Darkstar | It was uploaded to abgd-hs, it wasn't given a SHNID until after that had occured.
10/01/2007 | Wharfrat73 | As far as the time line goes here's what happened. It was upped to abgd. Someone grabbed it from there, convereted it to flac and seeded it on JP's. Once that occurred, it was given a shn ID. I edited the source entry to add the original shn checksums. I then edited the source entry again to note that this was actually a composite from different shows. Hopefully, that will prevent further circulation.
10/01/2007 | Flyerfanatic | SteveSw it is better that it has a SHNID now. A few years from now a person will upload it again and we might not have the information then.

How about updating the txt info on this entry to note that this is not an authentic entry? Put it in the txt info that the it takes material from other shows, as the current reading of the txt is straight up dishonest: "This is set 1 upto Mama Tried w/o any splices. It's a very clean sbd. Pretty certain from reels to cd then eac'd." That is a complete lie. Why enter fakes into the database only to give them some amount of authenticity? Talk about pissing in the pool. |

12/05/2007 | jjoops-garcia | Hmmm ... maybe because it's a "source in circulation"? |
