11/03/84 Slade Hall, UVM CDR 1 A- In my opinion...The sound quality is not as bad as I expected and do not let it scare you away from this show. This show has some great jammed out covers from The grateful Dead, Rolling Stones, and Allman Brothers. Notes from phish.net: Live taping has been going since the band's second show, 11/3/84. Shelly Culbertson said of the first gig, "Nope, that show was not recorded. However, their next show - 11/3/84, basement of Slade Hall, UVM - was; I think it was taped on a boom box with condenser mics and the tape is entirely over-saturated and distorted. The tape was labeled with felt tip on masking tape and appears to have resided on someone's car floor or dashboard for a few years. No, copies of this tape are not available - but I can try to post the setlist some day, if I ever figure it out. ;-)"

I saw 72 Phish shows and this was my favorite first set ever! When Kung is the third song of the night you know you're in for weirdness and fun. Stash was jaw-dropping and finally ended up in Catapult. I was still in awe fom the first set when they uncorked a great Reba and then came ... the jam... About 15 minutes into YEM other people starting appearing onstage. Dominique Flaco starts playing a trumpet. Suddenly Medeski Martin and Wood were there...playing with Phish and then slowly taking over the instruments ..in a seamless jam... leaving Trey with nothing to do but to grab his megaphone and start doing laps around the stage setup as the jam got weirder and darker. It was improvisational music at its finest. They tried to do it again in New Orleans a few nights later but this one blew that one out of the water."

Certainly one of the sickest shows you'll ever hear. I swear that toward the end of the Mike's Jam, you can hear the intro to the song "Seven Below" right before they transition into Weekapaug... 07/23/97 Lakewood Amphitheater CDR 2 A Other owners' comments..."I am amazed at how hot the jams are in Ghost. There is a lot of stuff going on here, not just one dimensional funk jams if that is what you are thinking...I love this show...the tape I have of it is about to snap, specially around Ghost...This show has an outstanding ghost and probably one of the most unique YEM jams ive EVER heard!!! Get this at all costs...Great Ghost, but far from the bestn ever which is 07/02/98"

08/14/97 Darien Lake Performing Arts Center CDR 3 A FORBIN! Forbin segment was dominated by the stage presence of Ken Kesey and The Merry Pranksters. Colonel Forbin doesn't meet Icculus this timebut rather finds "Ken Uncle Sam Bozo Easy Kesey". At this time Kesey, dressed as Uncle Sam, appearson the stage and accounces that the Bozos have been missing for two years but are on Phish tour now. He calls one by one the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and Frankenstein (Phish breaks into "Frankenstein") to help him find the Bozos, which soon appear as four white things in costume. After singing about the Bozos which are doing interpretive dance, the Pranksters all leave the stage after Kesey hears the "Bozo Mockingbird". Trey comments that this is what happens "after you do too much acid 30 years later..." Phish had been playing background music (including McGrupp and Ghost teases) which had developed by this point into a deep funk jam. Trey announces that "we are supposed to start 'Famous Mockingbird', but the funk is too deep." The band continues the funk jam and eventually segues into "Camel Walk."

08/12/98 Vernon Downs CDR 3 A Other owners' comments..."Ramble On melts into Slave perfectly and teases of the Ramble On jam wonderfully make their way back into the Slave jam. The Mikes opener for set 2 is one of my all time favorite versions. It has a dark and funky jam. Superb. It looked like Trey was tying the guitar strings in knots he was playing so fast during the peak! It should also be noted that Simple has a NASTY blues jam, which some folks label as a jesus left chicago tease, but I wouldnt exactly call it that. Its just different. YEM encore after a sweet Talking Heads cover...Start to finish perhaps my favorite show."
