Guests (for the whole show): Dara Quinn - keys, PK - bass, Elizabeth Pupa Waller - Percussion. Fantastic sound. Mellow, warm, clear. Jessica's (Sax) level in the house mix starts off a bit low, but it is fixed quickly. Wicked set. Highlights: d2t1 26min jam. 0 - 5 min. Establishing the groove. Led by Jessica(sax). Builds from ethereal sound to a bouncy groove. Into sax solo ~6:30. Also builds slowly. Sax and others trade back and forth in rapid-fire bursts of sound. This is interspersed with melody/groove sections in a structured pattern. The whole groove is in some polyrhythmic time signature. | |

This is not necessarily bad. The sound manages to be big without being too boomy. For example, the whack of the snare drum reverberates and sounds large without getting muddy. 05/01/03 | Tipitina's Uptown | 2 | CDR | C | DPA 4011's>Lunatec V2>Apogee mini-me>D8 on stage | Matt Ferrelli | I can't reccomend this recording. The mix has too much guitar and not nearly enough organ or sax. The energy is ok and the band is reasonably tight, but the show isn't good enough to outweigh the bad sound. Details: d1t1 4:00 sax not loud enough on solo - guitar too loud. Sax solo not impressive 5:30 guitar way too loud. the tune is picking up some energy... Moore pulls a solo at 8:00. Drum kit sounds ok, but nothing special. Fine solo. 10:20 now the guitar is overiding the drums! d1t3 guitar too loud! |

05/16/03 | Murat Theater | 3 | CDR | B | Schoeps mk4+kc5+cmc6>m118>sv-255 | Nate Fischer | Besides being a tad on the bassy side, there is too much low end reverb resulting in boomy sound in the low frequency range. Mid- and high-range is fine. I'm guessing this taper knew what he was doing, but there was just too much boom in the venue. |
