Digital Lunatics
KQED video/audio
The recordings comes from the imfamous 4-29-70
set which was performed exclusively and earlier
in the day (before the later Fillmore West gig)
for the local PBS station, KQED in San Franciso.
The footage was later edited with video effects
and added library footage.
The set list was:
- Atom Heart Mother
- Cymbaline
- Grantchester Meadows
- Green is the Colour
- Careful With That Axe, Eugene
- Set the controls for the Heart of the Sun
The video version is in MPEG format and is sourced from a low gen
VHS source. The best I've seen!
It was decided that an audio version
would also be a nice accompaniment,
something to take in the car
or just play around the house.
So the world was searched and...
The source is suposed to be a 1st gen tape from WNEW-FM (?)
It was chosen because of its clearer and more vivid sound.
(we felt the voices sounded more natural than other versions).
Also, it was a totally unprocessed version.
A note from the Masterer of the recording:
The source is suposed to be a 1st gen tape from WNEW-FM (?)
I chose this version because it had a clear/vivid sound (I felt voices sounded more natural than other versions I'd heard).
Also, it was a totaly unprocessed version.
Unfortunately this version was saturated. I succeed to reduce saturation (using a de-clipper and then a de-clicker and changing equalisation), but some saturation remains.
The version I used contained a lot of background noise. I used 2 different noise reducers (and a dynamic compressor for parts which contained more background noise than the average).
The version contained too much high frequencies (louder parts were quite agressive), so I also corrected this using tracks from BBC broadcasts to "calibrate" the equalisation.
Then I manualy removed "pops" sounds I could remove.
And that's pretty much it.
So what you have is a 2 disc set.
First disc including the complete video and audio experience
the second disc just the audio.
