CD-Backinside-Cover (Text):

The Band?s On Stage And It?s One Of Those Dates.....

27 years after the fact, ?It?s Only Rock?n?Roll? still hold it?s own, if for no other reason than it was the first Rolling Stones album to mean nothing..... and everything at the same time. Try doing THAT with another band. Mick Taylor?s exit and little hints of Ron Wood?s induction into the Rolling Stones all in one lp.

The album, as it was recorded, sounded like shit. Muddy, spiked in the high end. Exile On Main Street was done in a different fashion and had some ?Mo-jo? to it, but IORR was completely different. It was recorded very ?close? and ?clean?. Jimmy Miller, The Stones? George Martin, was on the outs due to the lifestyle the Stones themselves had inflicted on him. With all the addictions of that lifestyle, he could no longer produce the magic. So The Glimmer Twins pointedly decided that he was no longer needed..... "and hell, we can split the producer?s fee....." But that still leaves us with the album.

The remaster was taken - like Exile- from a Japanese Toshiba 1st issue pressing, released in the late 70?s. No PC software programs were used in the re-mastering of this classic album. Some pops and clicks are still there but ry to find them. Overall, the harshness that was evident on all IORR cd releaeses is gone. And in came anyone had doubts as to the quick spacing between ?Ain?t Too Proud Too Beg? and ?It?s Only Rock?n?Roll?, it?s on the original master tape, which was reproduced faithfully by the Japanese on this pressing, BUT, they did insert a ?leader? tape between the two songs, thereby doing away with the original master?s timing. The original master had a 1/8 second gap between ATPTB and IORR like the original Amercian LP release, but ALL subsequent cd releases had a much longer gap between the two songs. Trivial you say?? Bullshit! This is the original sequencing the Glimmer Twins produced in the studio and the effect is as stunning as Mick Taylor?s Solo on ?Time Waits For No One?.

CD-Frontinside-Cover (Text):

CD 2 - (1) Intro: I had to puffer this from Static In The Attic. I can?t explain how a compony that put out such high quality outtakes could put this one out way of speed, and hey, it?s such and old interview that it didn?t seem to fit on that title..... go figure. So here it is. Torn And Frayed?s motto going forward.

(2) Living Is A Harder Love: I worked on and off on this for one fucking moth and it still sounds like shit. It?s just a little better than the one on Swingin? Pig?s Lonely At The Top. Makes a great opener though. Thanks to the..... for helping me out on this one!

(3) It?s Only Rock?n?Roll: From the promo video and also the original Ron Wood home demo. The Stones used to build It?s Only Rock?n?Roll. If you always wanted to hear the original and didn?t have a copy of the video promo..... here it is; released in legitimate quality for the very first time.

(4) Till The Next Goodbye: I was really surprised when this came out on Acetates. a fantastic alternate version. Even though the Acetates? version is very clean, all of those tracks left much to be desired as far as sounding ?legit? as opposed to sounding ?clean?. Remastered here, hopefully these songs will have more warmth and ?soundstage? to them than the Acetates? versions did. A lot of time and effort were spent in making these alternates as legit sounding as possible without the use of pc mastering software programs and the like (anyone remember the Pig?s Welcome To New York?)

(5) Time Waits For No One: Taken from the English issued only album Time Waits For No One. An alternate version with an extended outro with Charlie smackin? the rim for a good 20 seconds on the outro. Sorry for the opos and clicks, and thanks to Mr. D for trying to get em out, but your efforts snuffed out the fidelity of the song. At Torn And Frayed we strive to ?preserve? the original ?artifact?..... (If you don?t know what that is..... look it up!) Period! If that includes some noise. Fuck it! ?av another beer!!

(6) If You Can?t Rock Me: From Acetates, but with the beginning bit cut out to make it segue better. A good version, although the overdubbed hi-hat double timing gets annoying after the first 30 secs. Still, it?s amazing, that this surfaced..... sounds like it came right off of IORR proper.

(7) Dance Little Sister: Left the studio chatter in this ?cos it seemed to fit, like the beginning to Sway on Sticky Fingers. Excellent version with an extra verse to boot! It?s amazing to me even to ths day, how Jagger always tried so many different things with so many songs.

(8) Through The Lonely Nights: A lovely song actually grafted from two different 15?s..... I had a problem with this in that I had two pressings: the original which was very clean toward the end of the song and the second pressing which was very clean at beginning but in the middle of the second verse had some hellasous noise that sounded like a worn out acetate! So even though this version has some clicks and pops I hope it satisfies. And see if you can finde the edit point!

(9) Drift Away: I have to dedicate this one to my best half - Christina M! In the midst of remastering this track she comes up to me and says: "You know..... it sounds like it drags a bit honey." So I thought about it and damned if she wasn?t right! The original track on Acetates was very slow. So we sped it up..... very much! I do believe that this is the proper pitch this track was recorded for. How it got slowed down on Acetates I don?t know. But if you compare this to that version, I think you?ll agree that this version could have very much been The Hit they obviously intended the track to be. Awesome!

(10) Fingerprint File: From Acetates. Facntastic version of the IORR closer. Goodnight..... Sleep tight...... Ow!

(11) If You Can?t Rock Me / Get Off Of My Cloud & (12) Ain?t To Proud To Beg & (13) It?s Only Rock?n?Roll: From the forthcoming release ?LA Sunday 13.07.1975? remastered for your pleasure..... Enjoy!
