Origins: 1-10 from "Crush All Boxes" FZ-008 original bootleg CD--->EAC for WAV--->CEP for track divisions--->SHN

11-12 from original single--->Line in to Audigy 2--->Recorded as 24 bit/44.1khz WAV with Cool Edit Pro--->Editing/declicking with CEP--->Dithered using .7, Shaped Triangular Curve, 44.1kHz noise shaping to 16bit/44.1kHz--->SHN

13-16 from "Apocrypha" bootleg (a circulating version, not the original)--->EAC for WAV--->CEP for track divisions--->SHN

Whew...a lot of sources! "Crush All Boxes" was the album that, in whole or part (nobody's quite sure EXACTLY what the album would've contained), became You Are What You Is and Tinseltown Rebellion. Frank played a one-LP test pressing several times on the air; consequently, the album has been bootlegged heavily. This particular bootleg source seems to have been taken from a test-pressing and not an off-air broadcast, and is thus preferrable to those taped from radio.

All tracks are presented in alternate mixes, and all run slower than the released versions on the YAWYI album (although it seems as if the YAWYI album actually runs *fast* on certain sides). Check http://w1.858.telia.com/~u85821131/weirdo/unreleased.html#crushallboxes for more details...safe to say, the Crush All Boxes mixes are generally preferred.

Note that I did *not* declick or process the Crush All Boxes material; I merely rearranged the track divisions (the bootleg in question has the track transitions a bit off, and doesn't even bother separating out "Beauty Knows No Pain"). I didn't want to alter the original source material from the bootleg, even though it *can* be improved in many places (in particular, it's mastered at a very low volume, presumably to keep some of the clicks' peaks from hitting 0dB). I leave this up to you, the end user...and besides, it isn't that bad.

AS FOR THE BONUSES!

Tracks 11 and 12 are taken from my 45 of the Zappa Records single in question...it isn't in perfect shape, but it's good enough (since this is my transfer, I did do a little manual declicking). Despite what the Lost Episodes liners imply, the A-side is NOT the same mix, although it is very similar. Ancient Armaments has recently been re-released on the Halloween DVD-A, but this is presumably a different mix.

Tracks 13-16 are the usual tracks from Apocrypha, although my versions come from a "corrected" fan version, and thus might differ from those on the original issue.
