J-Card Comment:

FINALLY! I get a copy of this video. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen in my life (of the over 300 concerts I’ve been to), Rollins Band at the Marquee in NYC on November 2, 1990.

I would venture to guess that you will not find a better Rollins performance. INTENSE does not come close to describing it. The violence level here is palpable. Henry is ready to do some damage, and many folks who make it up to the stage to dive get their faces rubbed into the ground and\or thrown by him. He sneers after it and seems to be just waiting to throw some punches. A couple of my pals are on here, one gets right in Henry’s face during the first song. He was one of the lucky ones not to get the beat down…

Sim Cain’s brother, Mark, helps out on saxophones, and the band plays “18 Hour Firefight”, one of the most blistering songs that never has seen the light of day (except here). Also, a really cool, funky reworking of “Next Time”.

When I chatted with Henry at CBGB’s Gallery after a spoken word performance, I asked him what the deal is with the song and he said they never were able to capture a good version of it…well Hank, here it is!..

I was a bowl of jelly this night. My brains were fried with chemicals and I was truly frightened to get close to the stage. Andrew’s bass was rattling what was left of my bones. Stanky bags of Crazy Eddie were smoked prior to this and it would be days before I would be able to function as a relatively normal member of society again. There is no excuse fer this kind of behavior. I can only say, watching this, that this show is almost as good now as it was that night…and nearly as frightening, as well.

By the way, this is the correct info. A snippet of this is posted on Youtube (in lesser quality) that states this show is from 1/2/90, Nov. 2 is correct.

Oh yeah, and please disregard any folks who say Rollins jumped the shark after 1989, they obviously have never witnessed this document!
