Babes In Toyland announced their reunion last year and since then, I kept a close eye on their (now growing) touring schedule. One of those bands you didn't have a chance to see live because they were never around the area where you lived? Yip one of those for me. I must say that I did not expect them to make it to Scotland a bit more than half a year after the announcement. Wishing that all of my hopes would come true so quickly!

The question was - what can I expect from BIT in 2015? A nostalgia show back to the early 90s, or a true punk/alternative gig? Well, I got a bit of both and felt like such a healthy mix. Firstly - they still got it and age doesn't matter! Secondly - after the first 5 songs it became clear that the band is having a ton of fun with this tour. And lastly - they haven't played perfect, there were noticeable mistakes but that is kind of true to the punk spirit. The show simply rocked because these lassies didn't try to pose as rockstars, just went on stage and played great music. What else do you need :)

I am particularly fond of the Fontanelle album and was great to hear quite a few tracks from it. Half of the Glasgow audience was made up by ladies and being honest, the kind of gigs I'm normally going to I rarely see so many different age groups. BIT has managed to attract a new audience while clearly satisfying the old - perfect example of how you suppose to do a reunion tour! If you have a chance, go and see them even if you have to travel for it. I have one regret - that I didn't go to the show the day before in Manchester.

About the recording- last time I ventured into the Òran Mór in 2010 when I filmed a Brendan Perry show. The place hasn't changed a bit and still a great little venue with a capacity of around 600 and the Babes almost sold it out. My trusty clamp has helped me out again for the camera and right behind it I managed to attach the 2 little CA-11s. I had to be careful though and I was definitely spotted towards the end of the show but the bouncer decided to let me get away with it - with a friendly but firm warning - as there were at least 2 more filmers in the audience anyway (although this footage is probably the only one that is complete). I didn't speak to any of the BIT lassies but I assume they don't mind filming.
I am very happy with how the recording turned out - will be back to Òran Mór at some point. It is an excellent quality static recording - see the sample - I only had to fix the camera once during the first 2 mins of the show, from there it is as good as it can possibly be for a static shot. Audio had to be equalised as Maureen's bass was quite low in the mix and the cymbals were a bit too loud, fixed those.
