❗ Zoooma Says ❗

Is it a Soundboard or is it an Audience recording? Because the audio comes from video that was broadcast on satellite television, there's a director behind the scenes who . . . well, for want of putting out a captivating t.v. broadcast he may have done an alright job. But for want of a great audio recording he stunk. This *almost* has the feel of a classic 1980's Westwood One radio broadcast where they bring up the crowd noise between tracks but they pipe it down pretty quickly to let the soundboard audio shine through. Here the audience noise occurs ANY TIME AT ALL DURING THE MUSIC. Why is this? Multiple cameras. Each time the director wants a different camera angle for the broadcast, the mics pic up the crowd noise in differing volumes. So there might very little crowd noise one moment and then Camera "D" goes on and the crowd noise picks way up. I'm also partially thinking maybe some of this crowd noise is not actually happening during the music at all but is like the old t.v. Laugh Track -- it's recorded and played over the music at times to make it seem like there's 100,000 constantly cheering people there? Freakin' mystery what's really going on here but it's a shame. This could basically be an A+ recording but overall it's frustrating and garners perhaps an A- because of all the crowd noise at funky times. It's not terrible, just . . . wonky . . . well, sometimes it is terrible, particularly during Creep. The soundboard comes through nicely at all times, there's just the idiocy of piping in the crowd noise sometimes way more loudly than other times. But when you're directing a t.v. broadcast and it's not ALL about the band on stage but also about the happy crowd, the director's gotta show that and he does and that's when the recording gets noisy. Oh well. Still a decent listen.
