J-Card Comment:

Opening night of the second leg of the North American VROOM/B'BOOM tour of 1995, again featuring the double trio line-up.

I had switched from MiniDisc to DAT after the REM shows in May and boy howdy was I happy to be done with the clunky decks with crazy stupid features, and having to switch discs every 60-74 minutes!!
This is the second KC/GT show I taped in 1995, this time from front-row dead-center. I had traded 10th row seats for the following nights show at Shoreline Ampitheatre featuring David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails for these, could not have been happier with the trade and I still had 3rd row seats for the NIN/Bowie show. (My recording of the NIN show was packaged under the title The Oddball Couple on the Hawk Records lable)
My seat was directly below Adrian's mic stand and the acoustics were amazing. If you crank it up you can faintly hear the counting off of many of the songs during both sets, and in Dinosaur you can hear Adrian strum the strings of his guitar juast before before the sound eminates through the amps mimmicing an orchestra...amazing stuff you would never hear on the soundboard!

Pat appeared to have identified my taping gear in the hat when the lights hit the crowd at the end of the show. As he walked towards the front of the stage, looked right at me smiling, and tapped his head pointing at me as if to say; "Your mic is showing through the fabric of the hat with the spotlights shining on you." A priceless moment to say the least.

Great set with some nice additions since the Warfield shows 4 months prior. The band appeared very enthusiastic to be back playing in the states.

Similar to my 6/26/95 posting this includes the opening set from California Guitar Trio. Wish they had played longer, they were always well-received in the Bay Area.

This has been released from DGM Live as a direct download. I bought it to support the artist, just as I would buy any shows I attend to encourage the behavior from like-artists, however I will say, I really enjoy my audience recording over the SBD. I tried in vein to make a mix of the two sources, but Robert appears to have chopped up the show a bit in THRAK and our recording equipment tracks off slightly (like miliseconds per minute of recording) which becomes more pronounced as the show continues. After listening to a couple of tracks that I pain-stakingly, yet successfully mixed, I gave up feeling that the end result did not improve the experience enough to warrant continuing. Anyone else wanting to give it a crack is welcome to. These files have not been altered in any way except for adding fades to track it for CD.

Enjoy,
Don
