Each set was one long improvisational piece without any breaks in the music. I tracked each set at changing points in the music so you wouldn't be stuck with two long tracks to shuttle through.
HAMID DRAKE (drums and percussion)
KENT KESSLER (bass)
KEN VANDERMARK (reeds)
Making only their second Chicago appearance in nearly four years, the IMMEDIATE SOUND SERIES is excited to welcome back The DKV TRIO. Comprised of locally based and internationally acclaimed heavyweights HAMID DRAKE (drums and percussion), KENT KESSLER (bass), and KEN VANDERMARK (reeds); these three musicians share a very special language when performing together. DKV has a unique style that allows compositional reference points to come to the forefront throughout their playing. Using compositions by masters such as Don Cherry, Sonny Rollins, and Albert Ayler as springboards allows the group improvisations to constantly evolve and, at the same time, remain tightly focused. Their discography is essential to anyone interested in the resurgence of jazz and improvised music in Chicago during the nineties, and in addition to their trio work they have also recorded albums featuring guests FRED ANDERSON and JOE MORRIS. Anyone who has seen DKV in action will tell you that live is THE way to experience their approach to improvisation, so dont miss what has become an all too rare chance to see one of Chicagos fiercest trios.
Enjoy this recording. Please keep seeding for as long as you can. NEVER sell any recordings.
