LDB Special Series #179

Out of my 7,000+ shows and radio broadcasts, I have many concerts that were special for some reasons: the setlist, the
musicians, the venue or unexpected events. These are the ones I'd like to propose you. Most of these come from my
cassettes collection, so they will be released at a slower pace than my Master Series! But you won't be disappointed!
I will try to gather the most unusual things I have in my collection and, as always, your feedback and comments will be my
reward for all the work involved in this project.

To support their 'Genesis' album, the band decided to tour extensively in North America between 1983 and 1984 with 5
dates in Birmingham to cover the UK territory (25-29 February). Quite unexpectively, they completely cut off the continent
from the tour, with people from all over Europe forced to travel to Birmingham to see the show. Part of of the reason was
probably the extensive US tour and also that Phil was forced to be back to work to prepare his "No Jacket Required" album,
so no additional time was available to tour Europe. It was not the first time the band decided not
to tour in a particular territory. Europe did not see any Duke show while UK has only one single chance to have the 1978
tour on the island (Knebworth).

The first show was traded in the early 90's, the second is sourced from a tape transfer of a double vinyl boot called
'In the cage' while the last one was purchased at Camden Market in London in the late 80's from a guy who had a master
copy, so this is probably sourced differently from the other copies and cd roios that are circulating from the last date
of the tour (Prince Charles and Princess Diana attended that particular show).

Listening back to these three shows (February 25 cannot be seeded here since it was used for the official Mama live footage) I
realised that the tour was not bad at all. Phil is in a good mood and the band rocks. The setlist is also good, with two
oldies' medleys plus the one from the 60's. This is Genesis in 80's, ladies and gentlemen, enjoy!
