Notes:
- Two versions of this show were available. The first version was part of a
torrent named "Miles Davis Broadcasts 1955-1959 - the rest" dl'ed in 2005. This
show from that source is very heavily clipped probably due to careless
EQ'ing/boosting. The clipping is severe, with 100-200 thousand clipped samples
per track. The second version was recently obtained in a torrent called
"Miles Davis - Paris - 1957, 1963". This second version looks like an attempt
to fix the first bad version. It is very heavily NR'ed, with almost no frequency
content above 5KHz, except for a few volume-triggered neatly stacked blocks.
The heavy NR is much lossier than an mp3. After much agonizing, it was decided
to simply run the first version through a declipping process.
Samplitude 2496 V6.0 declipping seemed to work well. There are still problems
with distortion and the badly-done heavy EQ'ing. One can only hope a better
source surfaces!
- Barney Wilen sits out on d1t02 and d1t03.
- There is a interesting article available online regarding Miles Davis and
his trip to Paris in the winter of 1957. See:
"Mighty Miles and His French Band of 1957"
http://www.iht.com/articles/2001/05/25/miles_ed2_.php
- d1t03 is incomplete and cuts out suddenly. According to Peter Losin,
a complete version circulates.
