Due to the location, there is less crowd noise, due to poor acoustics in this warehouse venue, the mic location allowed for better audio quality.

Comapred to the sedate theater environments of recent DTB shows, the general admission bar crowd fed energy to the band that they fed right back.  All the players were in costime, including the normally conservative Mr. Trucks, who came out in coveralls, with a cigarette hanging out of the corner of his mouth, and a black-eye.

Sound engineer Marty Wall has been placing a screen in front of Derek's amp, but not that night, so I got Derek's guitar straight from his amp to my face- not bad if you want to listen, but not good for the sound mix if you are recording.

So the guitar is very heavy in the mix through the show.  Drums, bass and percussion all nicely picked up directly from the stage.  The vocals are low as are the keyboards.  I have tried to improve the mix a bit, but could not do much for the keyboards.  The guitar-heavy mix does allow you to hear Derek's interesting rthym guitar, as well as his lead.

The bottom line is a very intense and enjoyable recording and perfect for those who like to keep their ears pressed up against the stacks to feel every note from Derek's guitar as well as hearing it.
