Taper's notes: Sunday Service in San Diego! The boys brought a rockin' good time to a sold-out House Of Blues. Just like 2007, the energy was off the charts. The crowd was digging the new tunes as well as a good selection from the first three albums. The covers were stand outs too, with extended solos on Girl From the North Country and Oh! Sweet Nuthin', and brilliant dual slide guitar work on Shake Your Moneymaker. Surprisingly, the normally anti-taping House of Blues was very cordial, and gave us tapers a roped off section just right of the house soundboard (in front of the Crowes' soundboard). We were under the balcony overhang, so to mitigate the boominess, I pointed the mics at the PAs. The tape came out a bit bright. I used Izotope Ozone to up the levels, widen the stereo and reduce the sibilance. I am not a sound engineer by any stretch and I hope my mastering was OK. Thanks to easyjim, terrapinj, boa and theking for the pre-show "strategizing" on how to deal with the House of Rules and especially easyjim for taping tips for this particular venue. Shout out to DATPAT and Fillmore_Crowes -- it was great to meet you guys and hope to tape with you again. |
