Original Master Recording:  Neumann RSM-191i stereo mic -> Neumann PS -> Teac DA-P20 -> coax digital out -> Denon DTR-80p(master @ 16/48)

DAT playback:  Sony R500 -> Sound Devices 722 digital input (@24/48)

Mastered: Soundforge Pro 10.0c - *All file manipulation in Soundforge done at 24 bits*. Sample rate conversion 48khz to 44.1khz using iZotope 64-Bit SRC set higher than "Highest Quality" setting w/anti-alias filter.  24 bit file then processed with SOX 14.3.2 (as recommended, keeping the file at 24 bits during the processing) to remove pre-emphasis which was applied by the Teac A>D converter.  Then back to Soundforge for volume normalization, a bit of clap removal and targeted notch EQ to minimize some screams/whistles during the off-mic tunes; and dithering to 16 bits using using iZotope MBIT+ with Ultra noise shaping, with high dither settings. Tracked in CDWav.

BARN79 notes:
Continuing with the 2nd night of this classic NYC Beacon run, I present my recording of this great show.  While, at the time, the significance of the 3rd night of the run (horns, historically interesting song choices) was basically all that most people focused on, each of these shows seems to hold their own pretty strongly.  In this show what stands out to me upon listening through it now are:  a very very strong "Foam" (a song I can generally do without hearing these days), the fun rarities of "Glide" and "Demand", a raging "Split Open and Melt", and an awe-inspiring "Antelope".  If you have to pick one track to listen to from this show, make it "Antelope" (but if you have time for 2, preface it with the "2001 Theme" for context).  Also quite tasty is the 2nd set closing "Slave To The Traffic Light".  This was back when the band seemed to have a lot more dynamics than they do now.  The quiet parts are very subtle, and the more upbeat parts are as energetic as ever.

Also worth noting is that Paul seems to have the room more dialed in on this night audio-wise.  The recording seems a bit crisper and clearer than the previous night.

This BARN series is dedicated to the OTHER Scott Bernstein (of Hidden Track) who had been talking about this run of shows as their 17th anniversary approached.

Once again thanks to Brendan O'Neill who rented the Neumann stereo mic we used, and again the off mic tunes took an inordinate amout of my time massaging them to make them listenable.  The results are still not ideal, but it's the best I can do for now.

Enjoy!

Scott
