Another PCM-sourced show -- Listening tests should be conducted to determine whether these shns have pre-emphasis applied and need to be burned with the emphasis flag set for each track. A recording with pre-emphasis encoded, but not decoded will sound artificially bright (similar to how a cassette recorded with dolby, but played back without dolby would sound). Feurio! allows one to manually set emphasis flags when burning disks. Subcode information regarding whether pre-emphasis was initially applied (it's applied before the initial a>d and de-emphasis is applied after d>a if the subcode's present) is LOST when a pcm/dat/cdr is converted to a wav. If anybody does conduct this experiment on this or on any other PCM-sourced show, PLEASE post your results so others may benefit :) |

11/07/2004 | C Miller | This source sounds very nice. There doesn't seem to be the pre-emphasis that is common on other PCM mastered recordings.
11/09/2004 | Diana | I earlier wrote into the comments field above, "note wavs have pre-emphasis, so files should ideally be burned to audio with PRE flag set (see user comments)" but at this point I don't remember if I had found that as a fact for this one (I had tested a couple PCM sources burned +/- flags at the time of Darrin's post), or just wrongly misconstrued on this one from Darrin's comments. So I'll take that out now.
11/09/2004 | darrin | fyi, I have not listened to this show.
01/10/2007 | btet | Just doing a quick listen I'm hearing very bright cymbals and guitar. Not sure if that's the result of pre-emphasis or not. I'll try to get ahold of Jay's source and compare the two.
05/16/2011 | charliemiller | This sounds like a cassette to me.
10/19/2011 | charliemiller | I just gave this a good listening to and can confirm that it is from a cassette. There's too much hiss for it to be a PCM. Plus there is a tape flip which was smoothed out at about 40 minutes into the first set, and another one in the 2nd set.

Can one of the admins note that this is from a cassette master in the description? I'm about to circulate multiple sbd sources and this info being listed as a PCM source is going to confuse things. |
