04/16/2003 | jamfl93 | The quality of this show is incredible...one of the best.
04/17/2003 | Joe Jupille | Agreed! Great show. There is also an aud (mastered by the "Tapers from Hell") which can be used to patch the cuts.
07/25/2003 | C Miller | This sounds like it could come from a multitrack master. The sound quality is just too multidimensional to come from a cassette or DAT (the Jerry Site suggests that the cassette and DAT in the lineage could be swapped). Sounds excellent, but the static in parts is painful.
08/19/2003 | wik | I think the great mix is a testament to the mixing wizardry of John Cutler. If I'm not mistaken, he's credited as the recordist / mixer of the "Shining Star" release. Did the same bang-up job on this night. What a pro. All hail Cutler!
08/21/2003 | Brian B. | Pu-leeze! Cutler was horrible! Yea he might make some good tapes on occasion, but the live JGB sound in larger halls was horrible! The bass was so muddy,I wanted to go scream at him many times.
08/21/2003 | sport | I'm with Brian.

LOL -- yes the house sound was never Cutler's strength. But how bout the View from the Vault 4 release, from summer '87 -- house sound by Dan Healy, reel-to-reel tape mixed by Cutler! They should have kept it that way always. Cause each was a wizard at those particular jobs! IMO there is no reason why a cassette master SBD needs to sound "dry" or otherwise crappy. A professional mix will have happy results even on cassette -- as we see here. Healy's tapes sound poor because his PA mix was so dedicated to the live conditions. It's amazing how crappy most Healy mixes are from a tape perspective. Cuter's PA mix, by contrast, may have been horseshit in the house (which sucks), but his tapes are generally quite amazing..... maybe we can trace all this to Cutler developing a mix that sounded good on tape, then sticking to it no matter what. |

I don't know about this one. Jerry is mixed WAY too low for my tastes... and it's a pretty sloppy show to boot... Jerry seems dazed and confused... to bad too, cause overall the sound is good, just drowned out Jerry... drmz.. |

"and it's a pretty sloppy show to boot... Jerry seems dazed and confused" Interesting. I have always considered this a strong show. Can you be specific about where you find things to be particularly bad? |

I agree with Joe. This show has been with me a long time now and it sure isnt because the performance suffers. I think its quite the opposite. IMHO, it is def. a strong show (esp. Mississippi Moon - as noted) Give it another listen, maybe on some good headphones ? |
