11/03/2002 | Mr.Marmar | Dunno if it's just me or what...but it sounds like the wav's need to have the pre-emphasis turned off before you burn em to CD...the treble is insane on these SHN's. I did that with my copy and they sound much warmer on a large stereo system. Wondering if this is a Nak problem with the pre-emphisis as many shows that have this source sound aweful trebly...(like the Binghamton '92 shows for an example)Other than that this show sounds great!
11/03/2002 | Blane | it's not the mics, but the decks. many decks used in the early-mid 90's (Casio, Teac, and others) used PCM recording which added emphasis.
11/03/2002 | Mr.Marmar | That's exactly what I was saying...not sure if Nakamici makes mics....I know they made good decks and speakers. Regardless, other than the treble being way too much, this is a flawless transfer.
11/03/2002 | Nak definatly makes mics, Nak 100s, 300s, and 700s are very common. Were more popular back in the day but there are plenty still out there and HUNDREDS of tapes circulating made with naks.
11/03/2002 | Blane | Sorry, I guess you misunderstood. The pre-emph problem that makes the recording trebely is not due to the microphone, but to the dat deck that was used to record the show. They recorded with pre-emph and conventional DAT>WAV processing does not remove it. It's just a coincidence that many of these types of recording are from Nak mics. This is because Naks were a popular mic back in those days (esp. among Dead tapers). Hope that clarifies.
