a redo after some digital discrepancies noticed by some peers/friends at etree in a unanimous decision. not sure what caused it to occur but anomalies do happen sometimes.
new cd audio lineage as follows.

split it for 3rd disc after Shakedown Street at Viola Lee Blues v1. thanks goes out to Richie Stankiewicz for this fine recording.
and thanks to Hunter Seamons(for noticing the issues) and every1 else that was patient with me regarding the initial screw up. Happy Thanksgiving All :-)

Thank You, grate work as usual, it's vet much appreciated. Peace

hseamons 2014-11-24 21:13:35
Am I going crazy? Upon listening to this source, it seems there is some kind of "artifacting" sound that I can't quite place, but it really detracts from the listening experience. Luckily, I sampled the 24 bit version on the Archive and it sounds like it should. Can anybody out there confirm this audible difference between the 16 and 24 bit sources? If there is, it might be worth a retransfer? Thanks for all the hard work, in any case.

MisterMojoRising 2014-11-24 21:50:48
artifacting hunter? not sure what you mean. cdwave 198 & downsampled only. nothing else. i may need to listen again. i played this show today(this downed source on a 5.1 dolby pro logic system, 1000 watts and loud too) and it sounded okay to me. please elaborate on this issue? if there is a prob a redo is definately in the works. apologies if i f**ked it up too.

hseamons 2014-11-24 22:32:16
Yeah, I keep comparing the 16 bit I downloaded with the 24 bit stream on the archive, and there is an immediately apparent difference. I played the files in both Cog and iTunes. A basic A/B comparison between the sources should show the difference. It's like a hazy, compression sound that is affecting the entire recording. This might be totally unrelated, but I have noticed this same type of "artifacting" sound on certain Live Phish downloads over the years that I believe were not processed right. For example, 7/21/13, 9/1/12 and 8/17/12 have this issue, mostly detectable in the vocals, while other nights from the same run sound normal.

hseamons 2014-11-24 23:26:14
Like, check out Half-Step around 5:10, where the "tinny" sound is more prominent. This sound is not on the 24 bit version.

MisterMojoRising 2014-11-25 01:20:47
its after 1am here so if every1 is ok with it & sorry i dipped. me & the mrs had some quality time to watch a movie and such & just be away from the usual, but again if its cool, i can check furthurmore into this issue in the morning after i've slept some? i do better after i nap for 4-6 hrs. it also goes with lack of sleep lately & again if i fugged it up, a redo will definately be in the works manyana. thanks for the heads up HS, appreciated for sure + i trust your judgement truly & geniunely. anyhow i'll check it out more in depth after naptime. hasta luego senors/senoras.

if this at all helps. i dont think it will make any difference but...

madriverrich 2014-11-25 08:57:00
Now ya know why i'm a 24 bit kinda guy

MisterMojoRising 2014-11-25 10:44:27
he mentioned the stream though rich. hunter you said stream right? the streams on the archive are lossy aren't they? is it the fact that 24/96 to 16/44.1 will degrade to some extent? but still Hunter... the stream or the actual 24/96 flac. please clarify? i thought about this last night after I signed off but twas too late. I wasn't coming back to the pc till i slept. well im here and wondering

hseamons 2014-11-25 15:23:58
Well, yeah, the 24 bit stream sounded better, so I figured it would sound even better if I downloaded it - which I just did, and it sounds freaking amazing. The 16 bit sounds trash bin worthy. Essentially, the 16 bit should sound like the 24 bit on a basic system that does not even optimize for 24 bit sound reproduction. It should not sound as different as I am hearing it sound. But then again, maybe I'm losing my mind. In any case, I think I'm correct about all this.

MisterMojoRising 2014-11-25 17:16:14
i'll redo it then. lets see if it is a once in a blue thing for me. first time i've seen it discussed since my beginnings in 2001(at etree anyways, meaning being invited to this great community that got my feet & ears wet) i'll get it done by mornings light(if i dont pass out first, lol) and upload it upon completion. thanks hunter, thanks rich & apologies for fuking it up folks.

hseamons 2014-11-25 18:20:07
Well, hopefully you can get another opinion on the matter before doing the legwork. My system might be having issues, or maybe this is something that can happen to the sound that I am unaware of. Not sure what you would need to adjust to fix the issue.

MisterMojoRising 2014-11-25 22:17:12
going to wait till tomorrow to see if anyone else has experienced issues. in the mean time i just shared the garcia 1984 project part 1. some 24+ gigabytes. 43 folders, some 600+ files and every source in circ from January 13 to August 13, 1984 at terralrps. here: http://www.terralrps.org/index.php?page=torrent-details&id=a98caa22942db343cbefd45ba23795e49873bb88

if anyone has experienced issues here please speak up soon or like tonight so we know its the downsampling and not HS. id prefer to know before spending time(un-needed, possibly) redoing this show?

thanks :-)

hseamons 2014-11-25 23:08:31
FWIW, I ran an experiment and down-sampled a 24 bit track to 16 bit. It sounds just as clean as the 24 bit track, without the slightly hazy, tinny sound.

MisterMojoRising 2014-11-26 00:24:47
hard disk issue here recently discovered. moving the files off the partition for a new go at it manyana. thanks Hunter. hasta manyana senor :-)
