Notes from Phish.net:
- Stash included A Night in Tunisia tease
- AC/DC Bag included Third Stone From the Sun tease
- Carini feature drum tech Pete Carini onstage
- Sneakin Sally was last time played 5/28/89 (920 shows)
- "Pentagram Harpua" included narrative about Lost in Space, the Udder Ball, etc. and no mention of Harpua, Jimmy, or Poster Nutbag
- I'm Gonna Be was first time played and featured Tom Marshall on vocals
- Harry Hood was unfinished
- Frankenstein featured Fish on vacuum
- the band realized they were going to blow curfew so they turned out a 30 minute encore since they were going to be fined anyway
- DAT tapes were swapped out end of set two for encore.  You can hear the fade out and fade back in during s2, track 12

I manually scrubbed 467 loud nearby LOUD claps, whistles and yells from this recording for all of your listening enjoyment.  In particular there was someone who clapped REALLY loudly right into my mics all through Harpua -- and I have managed to render that person (thankfully) inaudible now.

Taper notes:
For BARN176, I return to a band that I have seen and taped many many many times; but one that I have not dug deeply in my archive series for -- mostly because there are SO MANY other recordings of each of these shows that circulate.  Generally I prefer to dig into recordings that do not circulate at all (which is mostly everything else that I post).

That said, it was the middle of the Phish 2017 NYE run and everybody on social media was buzzing about the 20th anniversary of this all-time classic show -- also from a New Years' Eve run at MSG -- December 30 1997.  This was a rare request from my amazing wife, Jen.  We listened to this phenomenal show as I transferred it and were, of course, blown completely away.  This is considered by many to have been a pinnacle night in this band's career during a HUGE high time-period of Phish.  They may never again reach the heights that they reached on this night!  NOTHING about this show is typical -- every song is special in one way (rare picks like Sneakin' Sally not played since 1989, Black Eyed Katy, Carini which was really new and rare at that point, Harpua, Izabella) or is super duper jammed out -- brimming with amazing ideas like AC/DC Bag, Chalk Dust, Stash).  And then there is that encore.  Oh that encore -- almost a bonus set in and of itself!  And a Frankenstein with a vacuum solo?!  Wow.  This is a night that will never be equaled.

Enjoy this piece of history!!!
