============================================================================
Olvy decided to go to the last show of the tour on a bit of a whim. Aside from final exams I can't imagine why the rest of us couldn't go, so it must have been finals.I can't recall who he went with (Skip, John Borg?), he brought the D5 and Beyers and made it inside with the gear. Inside the cassette case I was surprised to find a hand written diagram of the 4 speaker stacks and his location relative to them! I then remembered him drawing it and explaining to us. I wonder why we never did that again although we took pretty good notes on our masters.

According to the reviews I read this was a doozy show. Many people had a blast at the good old Spectrum. Several folks claim that the Dead really liked that venue; I can say I saw them there about 14 times and they rarely played a stinker at the Spectrum. The first set takes off with a sublime Must Have Been the Roses; the band is soooooo mellow you can practically hear them breathing through the vocal mics. Then they let sail a ripper Let It Grow to end the first set. The continuing Spring 83 Help>Slip>Franklin's odyssey shows up and is thoroughly worked over, complete with spacejam at the end before an awkward transition to Women Are Smarter. The lead into Morning Dew out of Truckin' puts the mood in the Dew, which then kicks ass.

The sound quality is OK for this tour, but I feel we went from alternating placing the mics on a stand to hand holding them still a few times this tour and we learned the hand holding like Olvy did here was just not going to cut it and for the most part ran on a stand for 90% after that (well.... then the C422 came on the scene in late 84,thru 1986 and so we went back to some handheld).
