This is my seed...the correct lineage is NakCM-300 cardioid > Sony D5M cassette > Tascam CDR700. There is no DAT lineage. If there were, you wouldn't have the tape flips. Does anyone have a setlist for 2/4? It was a 21 and over night and I was 20! I've never seen so much as even a setlist. Truly lost to history!!!! |
10/29/2003 | Ben Mohr | The correct recording information is now up (thanks Dave)! However, it should be noted that the transfer lineage may be incorrect as Dave stated that his master did not go to DAT, but to CDR. I am leaving this source and transfer info as is for now even though it is obviously incorrect. If anyone (seeder?) has more information regarding the appropriate lineage, please post a comment or email me. |

I am the orginal seeder of this show, and I got it on DAT with this source info: Aud>Cass/0>DAT How it got to DAT I don't know for sure, from tape or CDR And yes there are clearly tape flips, look at the source info, Sony D5M Cassette. |

I think I can clear this up. This is another one of my transfers: Source: Master Cassette Audience (unknown mics) > Sony D5 Transfer: Aiwa AD-F850 3-Head > Apogee AD1000 > Tascam DA-302 > HHB CDR-850 (just like 11/22/91, 11/23/91, 11/24/91 for examples) I compared my original CD burn to the shn source all timings, sound quality and tape flips match up perfectly. Let me know if there's any issues with what's circulating for I have the originals. |

How does that clear it up?? If it were your transfer, you would know what the mics were!! The cassette flips and track assignments match up with my master CDR, which was burned from my master cassette which I recorded that night with the aforementioned Nak300 lineage. I didn't SHN and upload the discs, though, so that part of it I can't speak for. |

I don't understand how there can be two sets of cass(m). How can CW be using a Cass(M), when it was David H. that taped. I can understand if he made Cass(m)>DAT>Cass(0) and that is what CW used. |
09/27/2004 | This source has been around for quite sometime now, the ORIGINAL text file, which predates this database entry, listed the source as AUD > Cass/0 > DAT, dunno why it was changed, since this is indeed Alec's transfer from DAT to SHN. | |
09/27/2004 | jb | The problem is most likely that someone wanted to show off their second rate tape collection and labeled their tape Aud>CM>DAT when really it was probably Aud>Cass/3>DAT. Dave is the taper. He has the ONLY cassette master, and it was never transfered to DAT. Check the comments. There are people claiming to have done a Master Cass>CDR transfer without even knowing what mics they ran! It's laughable. |

the ORIGINAL text file read: Phish 2-3-91 The Front, Burlington, VT Source: Aud > Cass/0 > DAT Conversion: Tascam DA-20 > Coax > Waveterminal 2496 > Cool Edit Pro > CDWav > mkwACT > .shn This is Alec's transfer set up. Nak CM300 cardioid > Sony D5M (Cass/0) > Tascam CDR700 First of all this ^ shouldn't be in the text file at all. This particular source is from a DAT labeled AUD > Cass/0 > DAT. That Nak source info was entered in by the administrator based on speculation. Dave didn't transfer this source to shorten. Alec did from his DAT. The specific lineage of the DAT...is the controversial issue. ---- "The problem is most likely that someone wanted to show off their second rate tape collection and labeled their tape Aud>CM>DAT when really it was probably Aud>Cass/3>DAT" Have you heard this source? It is not from a cass/3. This one sounds like a master for sure. "Dave is the taper. He has the ONLY cassette master, and it was never transfered to DAT. Check the comments." I doubt dave was the only taper that produced a master cassette. Hence Chris has master cassettes of the same show. "There are people claiming to have done a Master Cass>CDR transfer without even knowing what mics they ran! It's laughable." heh, dont jump to conclusions...are you saying that these unknown mic sources aren't from legit cassette masters?: http://db.etree.org/shn/21593 http://db.etree.org/shn/20611 http://db.etree.org/shn/21797 Also highly doubtful that the tracking matches PERFECTLY with either daves or CWs discs, since this was transferred from DAT and tracked with CDWav prior to encoding to shorten. |

While I appreciate the enthusiasm with which you are trying to defend Phish tape collectors, just check Diana's comments for precedent in regards to people re-labeling multi-gen cassettes as "master" just because they think they have the best source since sliced bread. http://db.etree.org/shninfo_detail.php?shnid=1358 As for the John Redmond seeds you reference, I trust the authenticity of those sources much more than this one. |

Easy there DavidH - I got the master cassettes from Dan Chapman and did the digital transfer for him because I had the equipment. He couldn't remember who he patched off that night, or the type of mics. All I know is that this source is the same as mine. Do you remember the setup of every rig you've ever patched off? I mean jeez ; ) You could have 5 D5's all patching off the same rig and technically as far as sound quality goes, they are all Master Cassettes. I'm just sayin that if there's any issue with what's in circulation I may be able to help fix it since I seem to have what has been found to be a NAK 300 lineage. Just trying to help the community. |

Ahh!!! So, CW was patched out of the taper, so he does indeed have a Cass(m). So having his lineage say "Nak300>D5>D5>Cass(m)" would be more correct and would clear the confusion. You could also state this is CW's Cass(m) seed which was patched out of Dave's(?) rig. Then have a link to Dave's seed from his Cass(m). If CW had stated that the seed was a patch, none of this debate would have occured. Terry |

If Woody had gone straight to the police, this would never had happened. I thought it was my digi transfer too because my buddy downloaded this source from bt etree, and I compared it with mine just to see if the sound quality was any different, and they were identical. Then I noticed all the track timings were exactly the same too, and my edits on tape flips. So, hey, if it's a coincidence so be it. Mine was done with an Aiwa 3-Head F-850 > Apogee AD1000 > Tascam DA-302, then to an HHB CDR-850 for the DAT > CD transfer. |
