SEATTLE (October 16, 2000) ? EMP, the museum that drew its inspiration from Jimi Hendrix?s musical imagination and is dedicated to inspiring creativity and innovation through music, is proud to present the Seattle debut of "A Magic Science: Celebrating Jimi Hendrix" to kick off EMP's semi-annual Innovator Series.

"I'm working on music to be completely, utterly a magic science." ? Jimi Hendrix

Premiering first at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on October 20, A Magic Science, addresses the oft-asked question of what Jimi Hendrix might have been doing had he not died so young. Hendrix, the mythic guitarist and composer behind the albums Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold as Love and Electric Ladyland, was exploring rock-jazz fusion ideas before his death on September 18, 1970. He was one week away from recording with renowned arranger Gil Evans (who worked with Miles Davis on Sketches of Spain and Porgy and Bess). In 1974 Evans unveiled his ingenious arrangements of Hendrix songs at Carnegie Hall as part of the New York Jazz Repertory Company?s season and standout versions of Hendrix classics like "Castles Made of Sand" and "Little Wing" were performed.

A Magic Science is a contemporary, expanded reprise of that famous Evans-arranged concert. The production will feature funk/jazz/rock masters Medeski Martin & Wood and the jazz luminaries of The Gil Evans Orchestra, now conducted by Gil?s son Miles Evans. These artists are joined by Vernon Reid and Chris Whitley, two of the most innovative guitarists making music today. In addition, the evening will feature the scratching techniques of one of the world?s premiere DJs, DJ Logic on turntables and Marc Anthony Thompson and Sandra St. Victor on vocals. Glenn McKay, the famed lighting designer for Jefferson Airplane and the Monterey Pop Festival, will create his trademark liquid color landscapes along with new digitized, brilliantly colored projected images, completing this fantastical tribute to an American guitar legend.

EMP?s first Innovators Series begins on the eve of Jimi Hendrix?s fifty-eighth birthday with Magic Science and continues with a week- long celebration featuring workshops, films, artist presentations, and live performances dedicated to exploring Jimi?s musical legacy.

"Our goal is to make EMP the vanguard music institution in the world. The program we have put together embraces our mission, featuring an artist who is known for changing the way we embrace rock ?n? roll, and music in general," said Bob Santelli, EMP?s deputy director of public programs. "We?re excited to be able to present such a stellar production along with a week of educational events that examine Jimi?s incredible contributions to American popular music."

EMP's premiere Innovator Series takes place Nov. 26-Dec. 2, 2000. A complete schedule of other events and ticket information to follow.

EMP Explores the Genius of Jimi Hendrix with the Inaugural Innovators Series, Nov. 26-Dec. 2
Schedule includes live music performances, exclusive film showings and special guests

Experience Music Project today announces the final line-up for its inaugural EMP Innovators Series, a semi-annual program designed to explore the music and legacy of an artist who has significantly changed the course or direction of popular music. The first innovators week examines the inspiring creativity and musical innovations of Jimi Hendrix and runs Sunday, November 26 through Saturday, December 2.
?Hendrix was an artist who dramatically affected rock guitar by exploring sonic distortion and incorporating jazz and blues,? said Bob Santelli, EMP?s deputy director of public programming. ?Hendrix almost single-handedly created heavy metal, jazz-fusion and made important contributions to the evolution of funk. This month he would have celebrated his 58th birthday.?

The fall 2000 EMP Innovators Series begins on the eve of Hendrix?s birthday with A Magic Science: Celebrating Jimi Hendrix, a live performance at Benaroya Hall featuring Medeski Martin & Wood, Miles Evans with The Gil Evans Orchestra, Vernon Reid, Chris Whitley and others. The series continues with a variety of activities featuring workshops, exclusive films, presentations and live performances all dedicated to exploring Jimi?s musical legacy.

11/01/2004 Russ d1,t6 doesn't seem to be EXP as far as I can tell. d1,t8 is an instrumental version of Stone Free (it's subtle, but it's definately in there).
01/05/2005 twatts D1T12 - the first 4:23 are Drums. Experienced starts at 4:24. No big deal, though when I burned my audios, I made this track split...

Also, Russ is correct about Stone Free... Not sure about EXP...
