Additional comments from Pete: Background Info 01/21/2003 I was really interested in creating a post Soundboard/Audience matrix since November 1997 when I first heard the DATSBD source of the Chicago show. Unfortunately I never had a chance to aquire a good audience copy of the 11/22/97 show. Additionally, the trashing my CPU/Hard drive would take back then seemed too time consuming (running a newly introduced Pentium 2 back then). It took me literally hours to just transfer DAT->Hard drive->CD. With the new processor speeds, (I am currently using a Pentium 3 with 364 megs ram) I knew this process could be done in a decent amount of time. When I downloaded 12/30/97 SBD off of Marc's server, I noticed several "flaws". First off, the majority of But Anyway was missing. The tape/cd itself sounded as I would describe it to be dry and flat, almost had no life. The music itself was nice, but the SBD source didn't have that "concert" feel to it. Most soundboards have a small problem with this, but I thought this show particularly worse off. The audience copy of this show I recieved on disc several years ago, early 1998, right after the show. Overall, I thought the sound was fairly good, but being so Front of Board (20 rows back, I assume the mics were not allowed to be 15ft high), the immediate crowd noise around the mics were very loud throughout the whole show. In the end, what I wanted to accomplish with this Matrix is that this is the best of both worlds. The music clearity, presence and stereo affects are all there, along with the crowd interaction. In end, even the band does not Matrix shows for live releases, which I think is a damn shame. Some of the complaints of "What You And I Have Been Through" are exactly this, flat, dry SBD sound. Maybe this will inspire them to try a new live release in this format (doubtful, but hey wishing doesn't hurt). Let me know what you think, and if this is worthwhile in the future.
