** the crowd, clapping the NFA beat, chants "We Want Phil": Bob says, "Relax, You got him, but maybe not just yet you know, maybe we'll wait a little. I also have it on excellent authority that there is no such thing as April Fools"

the tour story:
Another night suffering along with the rest of the tapers in the OTS. This night is much better sound quality wise as we struck up a deal with someone and put the AKGc422 on their stand dead center front row of the OTS. It is still plagued with the fact we bought this microphone to be up front, its capsules and large diaphragm design was not for being 150 feet from the speakers. I do not care what Dan Healy said, the sound back there in these hockey arenas, even with early Meyer Sound SIM corrections, was still JUST OK, if that.
The best on this night was the "Big RR Blues", "Music Never Stopped" first set enders. Both sets were a bit short so that weighs in on the theme. The Estimated > Eyes had a very long jam between tunes and then at the end of Eyes. More odd was the fact there was only two Jerry tunes in the entire second set. They even had Phil do "Box of Rain" which I guess had become so in demand they put it in the encore slot for the first time since breaking it out nine shows prior.
For this specific show Phil opens with "Gimme Gimme Some Lovin'" with stompin bass bombs getting the crowd excited. "Little Red Rooster" featured Brent and Bob with some fine vocal and B3 solo work. Then the cowboy tunes show up big time. Jerry meandered through "Stagger Lee" with a decent solo section. Bobby sang a short "Cassidy" with some passion. The set ended with a stomp through "Big RR Blues" and "Music Never Stopped". Jerry led the music playing the band with Phil dropping some bombs at the songs' conclusion.
"Shakedown Street" opened the second half of the night and the crowd finally got to shake their bones a bit. Phil was dropping bombs from the get go with the boys playing nice and loose on this tune. "Estimated Prophet" > "Eyes of the World" featured a long jam out of the Eyes led by Bobby. Out of space, "I Need A Miracle" was cut short. The "Black Peter" which followed was a bit morbid in its dirge like pace and lack of solo prowess. "Sugar Magnolia" was a bit rushed as they were running up against curfew. All leading to the April Fools appearance of "Box of Rain" with Phil soaking up the crowd's energy with smiles.
