Notes:
--Dickey Betts (Forrest Richard Betts) was invited to participate but his health precluded him from traveling although he wished the event be successful.
--The show was one of the last large concerts to take place before the 2020 coronavirus pandemic in North America forced the shutdown of such events; some people accordingly did not go to it, and indeed especially due to the older demographic of the group's fan base, Derek Trucks would subsequently wonder whether it had been wise to move forward with it.
--Prior to the one we all know about today at 4 Pennsylvania Plaza, there were 3 other venues called "Madison Square Garden"...2 of them were located just northeast of Madison Square (formed by the intersection of 5th Avenue and Broadway at 23rd Street in Manhattan): the original, which was active from 1879-1890 & leased to P.T.Barnum (Phineas Taylor Barnum), was demolished in 1890 because of a leaky roof & dangerous balconies that had collapsed, resulting in deaths; the 2nd one (aka "Madison Square Garden II") was designed by noted architect Stanford White & soared 32 stories in the air (NYC's 2nd-tallest building at the time & dominated Madison Square Park)...it was financially unsuccessful & New York Life Insurance Company, which held the mortgage on it, decided to tear it down in 1925 to make way for a new headquarters building; the 3rd "Madison Square Garden" (aka "Madison Square Garden III") was located on 8th Avenue between 49th & 50th Streets & lasted from 1925-1968...it was demolished from 1968 thru early 1969 after the opening of the current Garden (the one at 4 Pennsylvania Plaza).
--The venue at 4 Pennsylvania Plaza that most of us are familiar with is colloquially known as "the Garden" or by its initials "MSG" & is also known as "Madison Square Garden IV"...it opened on 1968-02-11 as "Madison Square Garden Center" (could not discover when the 'Center' was dropped from the name)...including two major renovations, its total construction cost was approximately $1.19 billion (in 2020 dollars), and it has been ranked as one of the 10 most expensive stadium venues ever built...its 1991 renovation was $200 & its 2011-2013 renovation was $1 billion.
