04/03/2004 | Dean Thole | d1t1 seems to be corrupt. Verifies with MD5, but there is no music when decoded to wave. There is a wave file that accompanies this shn, but that also does not play.
07/10/2004 | Jim Van Houten | Did they have digi-boards in 87??
07/10/2004 | Joe Samaritano | PCM is considered digital, which is likely what this is sourced from.
07/11/2004 | MB | Yes but even with the PCM included that should not be listed as DSBD.
07/11/2004 | Mark Goldey | DSBD really means that the soundboard itself was digital equipment. It should have nothing to do with the method of recording (analog or digital) or the media used (cassette, DAT, etc.). I don't know whether the Dead used a digital board in 1987, or what the seeder intended to convey by "DSBD".
07/11/2004 | Joe Samaritano | Right, I've had this one for a while (not this source) with the provenance SBD -> PCM x ? -> DAT x ?
07/12/2004 | MB | That was my point, because I find it unlikely that the board was digital back in`87. When did they start using a DSBD anyway? My guess would be early 90?s but someone probably knows and could tell us.

My 2 pesos: DSBD means the recording was made digitally from the soundboard, period. This could be a DAT or PCM or Digibeta or CDR; the board need not be "digital" (why would we care about that, anyway?) DAUD means the show was recorded digitally from the audience. It does not tell us the audience members were digital. It refers to the tape. DSBD tapes were made from 1982 to 1995 - i.e., when digital tape devices were used. This is a DSBD, but since the PCM master is listed, calling it so is redundant. |

07/21/2004 | dmac | Yes well all this if fine and good, but does anyone have a non-corrupt D1T1????
08/29/2005 | jbear725 | I've created a torrent just for the non-corrupt Mississippi Half-Step on bt.etree for those in need of the correct file. Eventually it will be updated on archive.org so it's correct there.

Here's the new md5 for that track: 3cb2e139a3c86919d0583b743171a2da *gd87-05-10d1t01.shn I just noticed that the two sets of md5 offered for this source, "d1/d2/d3" and "alt-shn", match. As in each other. |

> the two sets of md5..., "d1/d2/d3" and "alt-shn", match ...each other. They match for everything except d1t01; the "d1" md5 is the same as you have listed: > 3cb2e139a3c86919d0583b743171a2da *gd87-05-10d1t01.shn |

05/30/2010 | johnzei | If I remember correctly the D was intended to indicate that it was mastered on digital media (PCM) not that the board was digital so it was mislabeled. My source lists this as SBD-> PCM-> DAT......and so on, not as DSBD. Sorry for the confusion. I seeded this in 2000. I do have the Half Step from this show if anyone is still interested. I'll have to compare the show with the Miller source and his comments would be appreciated.
05/30/2010 | charlie miller | This pcm sbd is very clean, but I think that Joani Walker's cassette master sbd is a bit better for this show. Normally I go with the digital boards, but not for this one. Either way, they are both great recordings of a great show.
05/30/2010 | charlie miller | I disagree 100% about the DSBD label. It has nothing to do with the console being a digital console. It has always referred to a recording being purely digital. |
