04/23/2005 | Trey | The first set is incredible, particularly the YEM > Ghost > Maze transitions. The YEM is above par with a funky-as-hell jam. Trey really tears it up. The short vocal jam immediately transitions into Ghost. Listen closely to the lyrics/vocal jamming going from Maze into Catapult for a YEM reprise. Moma Dance is solid, as is Horn and Scents and Pebbles and Marbles. Piper is the perfect opener to the second set with some very solid jamming. Cavern is played harder than I've ever heard it played, at least vocally, and Trey lost his voice by Limb by Limb. The real gem of the second set if not the entire show is the Scents and Subtle Sounds. Page and Mike really take the song to some dark places that they explored briefly during the Ghost > Maze transition... it was the most emotionally resonant jam of the show and really seemed to be the only expression of the impending breakup, this being their last show before Coventry. |
