NOTES
For Del McCoury Band only set, see del2003-10-09.flac16.
Electric LoS (~32min) + Acoustic LoS/DMB (~59min) + Electric LoS/DMB (~20min)
LoS Set - LOUD crowd applause relative to the music. Compressed 4:1 above -6dB, amplified ~5dB. The only compressed music is a few areas of vocals that were really belted out. Much more listenable this way, IMO. Feel free to contact me if you want the unedited master (bskalinder@yahoo.com).
LoS/Del Set - I wasn't on the ball enough to tweak my levels on the fly for the acoustic portion (oops), so applause are way louder than the music. Adjusted acoustic portion and encore in post: compressed 4:1 above -18dB, amplified ~15dB, smoothed gain change transitions. Feel free to contact me if you want the unedited master (bskalinder@yahoo.com).
VENUE
Mr. Small's is a neat place, an old church converted to a recording studio and performance space owned and run, I believe, by someone affiliated with Rusted Root. Pretty good sounding venue, but as usual with acoustic acts the PA just wasn't very loud.
A bit before showtime, our group of FOB tapers - after getting clearance from the venue to run up front - got booted back by tour management to the rear corner of the venue just in front of the bar area where they were serving *free beer*. Let's just say free beer does not translate to a quiet, respectful crowd intent on listening to the music. (I'll never understand people who pay $25 to go to a venue, drink beer, and blather on endlessly with their friends all night instead of listening to the music.)
I taped the LoS acoustic (1st) set from the section in back. Ugh, no more of that, thanks. I packed up my gear and went well front & center for the Del (2nd) and LoS/Del (3rd) sets. A group of people set up chairs about 4 deep from the stage and sat down the whole show. I set up my stand at about 5' immediately behind this seated group - much nicer spot!
See del2003-10-09.flac16 for Del McCoury Band's full set.
